Guys like George Hill are going to be traded for 2 2nds, Collins is not leaving without a 1st, young player and at least someone on the level of Theis to help somewhat replace his production. They want to make the playoffs

Theis/Nesmith/1st is a very steep price if you ask me from Boston's perspective.

Ehh not really it’s an expiring theis, a late 1st and nesmith who hasn’t shown anything but bc of his age and the unknown still has appeal. I don’t think 2 years from now if we looked back at that deal for Collins we’d have buyers remorse and again I’m not even a big Collins guy

Our pick isnt exactly that late at this point but if it's Nesmith and not Langford, I could see danny pull the trigger. The question then becomes is Barnes available for a similar price and if so, which one would you rather have?

I'm just glad a bunch of dumb ass impatient fans aren't in charge, we'd be Billy Kingin this thing to ****.

Witnessing Bill Belichick rain down thunder these last two days will do that. He doesn't mess around.

Gotcha, though two completely different animals GMing the NBA and the NFL.

Ya completely different. We'll just have to wait and see how Danny impacts his team at the deadline. He's such an animal.

He’s been affiliated with Fenway Sports Group for like 15 years, this was a long time in the making.

Call it semi informed. It’s why yesterday I told
GoCelts123 that he shouldn’t be so quick to rule out the Collins thing.

Do not hold me to it lol, just passing it along that they are interested in him. Not exactly breaking news, he’s a great fit with the Jays.

Who is more likely in your opinion, Barnes or Collins?

Wiz not taking beal calls obviously- but that means step 1 of plan leverage Bradley to Boston is going to be passed

Beal not being traded this deadline is the ideal scenario. The "force your way to Boston" is way easier with just one year left on his deal.

We honestly should just wait until Beal is a free agent. I think he's going to opt in down the line, then hit FA the year after because he can get that 150% contract or whatever which is way more than he'd get if he opted out.

Could be wrong, but read that on twitter somewhere

I think he might be supermax eligible if he makes all-nba this year? But aside from that, technically signing even the regular max at a later date is always better for the player because the cap keeps going up and your salary is determined by a percentage of the cap.

ddb wrote:now hearing the John Collins interest from Boston is very real. I asked why when considering that Collins has already turned down so much money....Here's the reasoning I got.

#1- Ainge can keep the large Hayward TPE for offseason which is ideal
#2- Celts feel like if he comes here, does well, and likes it that he would be more receptive to taking a reasonable extension.
#3- They like his game and fit with the J's
#4- If they cannot come to agreement with him beyond this year they can work out a S&T

So basically for Boston this is all going to come down to what Atlanta wants back in return and if it's reasonable.

In the beginning of the offseason, danny said he's looking for a big, who can play both the 4 and the 5 (which is why he went after millsap) so it makes sense.

But the S&T math doesnt work with Kemba on the roster. To execute a sign & trade, they need to stay under the hard cap which is essentially impossible with Kemba on the roster next year.

Ainge also specifically mentioned not going after guys who are entering free agency - singled these guys out. Sure, I don’t believe everything or much ainge says publicly and I’d bet the interest is real but I don’t see it happening

RFA's are different the team has essentially all the control to hold on to the player by signing him matching him or having him back on the QO for one more year. In that sense they have more value than a pending UFA.

This the problem with Collins market. If you are non playoff teams with cap space then you not just giving up whatever you are in the trade, your probably giving up your chances in FA as you will be tied up with the QO and cap hold for Collins. Your then committing 25-32 mil a year to him salary, or not.

To an extent the Hawks have backed themselves into a little bit of corner beyond being in playoff contention themselves. The teams that are headed to the lottery have no reason to really engage with ATL on him now as they don't want to win games. The price only goes down in the offseason when it is a S&T scenario or an offer sheet.

This is probably the last chance ATL has to move Collins on their terms and they have to be ready to pay him the max if they hold on to him. Now if your going to make a mistake with a max deal make it on a 24 year old who is productive.

Feels like this is a way for Ainge to create a little leverage with SAC if they are trying to push Ainge for more than he wants to give.

I thought he gets the 10 year 35% after next season which is why he’d opt out?

I’m pretty sure he’s not super max eligible but I thought that he is eligible for something when he hits 10 years in the nba which would happen after next season which is when he can also become a free agent

You have to like the idea of the C's recruiting Beal as a free agent (at a meeting in the Hamptons probably).

Tatum is there to welcome him with Brad and Danny.*

I like how that meeting might turn out.

*Kelly Olynyk would be there too.

Collins wasn't too impressive when we played Atlanta but he could've been pressing too much. He's more of a PF than Barnes which is plus. Also this'd put Tatum at SF which is his best natural position. My issue with Collins when I watched our recent game against him is that he seemed smallish and unimpactful (like my posts).
