As I've said, THIS is my favorite trade thread...but, the more I think about it, the most important thing the Magic need to do is make some significant commitment to player development. All of the small-market teams that have any success must draft well and develop what they draft. I'm over Clifford's place as an old-school "go with what works", squeeze out wins guy. Maybe he could co-exist with a developmental assistant but my gut tells me no. Doesn't mean he's a bad coach at all...I wouldn't want SVG or Thibs, who are winners, either...we could trade for all of the young talent in the world and I'm afraid Cliff would hand it to TRoss and Birch anyway.

What about De'anthony Melton as a trade target? He signed a 4 year $34M contract last offseason with Memphis. Rumors were they were shopping him in a sign and trade. His market was depressed because he was only shooting 29% from 3

Now he's shooting 41% from 3 on 3.8 attempts a game.
PER 36: 17/5/5 with 2.4 steals and 1.1 blocks.

thats what his steals per 36 has been all three years in the league. He's still only getting 20 minutes a game (the same all three years in the league). This dude needs need to be playing 30 minutes a game.

Theoretically play a bit of 2 with the first unit and a bit of 1 with the 2nd with Cole and Ross

All I know about him was that his defensive intensity was something they couldn't lose...now he's shooting 41% on high volume?

Yah, but he’s still only playing 20 minutes a game. I think he pulled a Bamba on their coach.

No idea why Memphis would trade him. Our FO could’ve drafted him but something something flattened out.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

I agree, development wise this team has been lacking for years and developing something like Toronto or OKC, where it seems like they continue to have a steady stream of young players who develop into swiss army knives is what we need. We should legitimately be utilizing our G-League team. Everyone always talks about how our team should just continue winning and then we’ll luck out in the mid-range draft picks, but part of that equation is developing those players in that range, something that the Magic has been piss poor at. The last decent 2nd round draft pick we’ve had is Kyle O’Quinn. That’s inexcusable.

There is gonna have to be a proper revamp of the organization top-down. From the shooting, scouting to the injury problems of the past couple years we have to start looking inward rather than outward.

#46 pick. Sad we couldn’t snag him. His numbers look incredible on both sides of the ball for a 22 year old.
