I can see why WeHam would want a stabilising veteran PG like Rubio for a young team. Unfortunately Rubio has never really proven to lift a team. Look at the difference between him and CP3 in Phoenix as an extreme example.

Fultz will be down for a bit, Cole is young and needs a good mentor, and even Bamba might benefit from a PG with solid vision.

The rest of the Wolves youth doesn’t really excite me that much. McDaniels has crazy talent but I feel like Cliff would hate his lack of team focus and attention to detail.

I’d see if we could get a pick swap thrown in for the most favourable between the two teams, if Minny end up ahead of us. They could bite since they’re still likely to get a top 5-10 pick back.

I get what you’re saying, but is Rubio and a pick swap really the best they can do for AG? Who balances it out on that roster? Nowell, Okogie, Culver, or McDanials?

Do you mean they will only pull an AG trade during the draft?

It makes sense but I think they are wasting the opportunity right now. A PO team might give up more for AG right now especially if they see AG as the piece to really contend ( like they need AG to sic against those star wings in LBJ , PG , Kawhi, AG, etc ). If they wait during the draft, teams might not be as desperate.

A PO team might give up more for AG right now especially if they see AG as the piece to really contend ( like they need AG to sic against those star wings in LBJ , PG , Kawhi, AG, etc ). If they wait during the draft, teams might not be as desperate.

Oh yeah, there is some serious inquiry and maybe some team will cave in and meet some of Weltham's demands... I just wouldn't blow my top if they didn't like the offers... they could play that game around lottery time. But if there's a good deal to be had, I'm with you man, I hope the FO pursues it.

Rubio was actually pretty good for the Suns last year in their Bubble run. But nonetheless, he certainly does not fit on this team. He's a MCW with playmaking skills instead of defensive skills.

If the Wolves are desperate for AG and end up with a better pick than us, AG might be the piece that gets us a pick swap and improved position. But that’s very team specific to the Wolves and would depend on how big the drop is for Minnesota.

If GSW end up with the Wolves pick and it’s still better than us then again AG might cover the cost of a move up.

Ya, this. Basically how he can be used for pick swapping or grabbing picks. Also, after teams get bounced from the playoffs, they usually then realize more so, "hey we actually do really need this type of player." Also, I know this is not as common, but there are teams who generally steer hard away from trade deadline trades, like SAS. Teams who opt to not change things up too much mid-season may be more likely to get loose in the offseason.

Ah.. I see. So meaning AG is the factor between potentially choosing between Cade rather than Mobley? If so then yeah I can understand that.

But trading AG in the deadline could mean the Trent, Miles/PJ, potentially MPJ, etc which I dont think will be available or same price in the offseason.

To me, AG's greatest value is the playoff matchups you describe. The biggest timing factor is that he'll be an expiring deal this offseason. Obviously, trade value for a decent player with a fair contract is lower if he's a flight risk...see E. Fournier, V. Oladipo, J. Collins, etc...Last thing I want is cryptic interviews all next season with AG saying "I love it here but of course I have to consider all my options and do what's best for myself and my family, etc..."
