I'd trade for Lonzo on a fair deal and extend him on a reasonable deal. Then we can add another SG piece in free agency.

I would pass on on giving him a big deal in free agency as well, would rather keep the cap open for 22.
He's a decent role player, but would rather keep all our assets for the star level player we will need in our back court moving forward.
How many years do we keep kicking the can down the road??? At some point, we have to pull the trigger and create a winning team.
Are you ignoring how they spent in 15 16 17 & 19?
Not advocating for it b/c it’s pointless, as they will spend this summer.
Just stating that short term gratification can backfire big time
The long game while you build with what you have is not a bad option should they decide to go that way

Saving cap space in 2022, for who? The only guys under 30 that year that are unrestricted will be Beal and LaVine. The Bulls would be stupid not to resign LaVine, and Beal is going to want to go to a ready made contender.
Every year you guys want to punt on signing good players for the dream of signing someone in the top 10, and every year they pass on us.
I don't mind the idea of being selective with our money and only spend them on the right players but I really hate this "we can only make moves for star player" thing that people are on right now. It's kinda replaced the "we must tank at all costs crew.' Eventually we need to either trade these draft picks or actually draft someone with them. They can potentially lose a lot of value when they are turned into players. So it's not like we've got infinite time to wait to make decisions.
That's why I think we should make the move for Lonzo. Trying to poach a restricted free agent will guarantee us having to overpay. If we can act quickly after we have him in house we wouldn't have to worry about being screw on a offer sheet. So if we want to put together a more compelling roster to entice Lavine or Beal to come trading for Lonzo would probably help. A core of Lonzo, IQ, Rj, and Randle would probably be more compelling roster than either of the bulls or Wizards could field to sell them on coming here. Now hopefully with Randle's bird rights, Aller will be able to keep enough cap space open to bring in Lavine and resign randle.

why not save it for 23 when lebron is a free agent?
no save it for 24 to get booker and kat
Better yet, let's just wait until 2040 when a talented 3-year-old is eligible for the draft and we can move up to grab him.

I'm not talking about short-term spending just for the sake of spending. We need a PG and a lights out shooter like we need air. Those guys are available if we pull the trigger.
We brought in WWW for a reason -- and he's not going to stay in the front office while we rebuild slowly. We also brought in Brock Aller who is a bonafide capologist. We finally have the perfect storm of available cap space, draft picks, young talent, a respectable coach, and a knowledgeable and connected front office. If this isn't the time to make a "smart" move and fulfill need then there never will be.

Imo. this wouldn't be a bad time to leverage our cap room and players currently on the team for a better player. Maybe some lesser 2nd rounders.
I do think we should hold off on trading any significant draft capital until this summer.

Lonzo would be great for us to pick up in free agency. The last player we signed by way of LA and NO, turned out to be a great signing. We need to get stars before they become stars. Lonzo is going to get better, how much better depends on him and hopefully the Knicks development staff.

It’s never ends man.
We’re too good for Brogdon. We’re too good for FVV. And seemingly now we’re too good for a 23 year old PG with excellent vision, great defense, a guy shooting 39% from 3PT on 8 attempts.
I’ll never understand what’s wrong with getting incrementally better. Especially considering that we have RJ-Randle-IQ-Mitch to further along their development process.
You aim to sign a star when you have a legitimate foundation in place.
In the meantime let’s just keep wasting money on the Payton’s, Bullock, Burks, Ellington, Courtney Lee, Taj and Portis of the world.

I like Norm, but wouldn't it be better to see if IQ can assume a similar role in his 2nd year? You'd have no issues with Lonzo/IQ defensively as far as size goes, that's part of the problem I see with IQ long term, he's too small to guard SGs, but offensively he's a SG. Lonzo solves that problem, he can guard the 2s, and IQ takes the 1s.
Starting IQ year 2 will also raise his profile in case there's a star player that we can trade for too.
You can do that as well and make Powell the 6th man.
I thought you wanted Trent over starting IQ though
Powell is so much better than Trent JR it’s not even funny. He’s already 8-9 FG tonight with 21 and the first half isn’t even over. Don’t get me wrong Trent is a very good long range shooter who adds nothing else to the game. Even his defense is overrated. I also question how good of a shooter he really is when Dame is seeing doubles every night and casually dropping 50 on 20 shots. Trent is FEASTING off those open looks. Would he have the same clean looks here...highly doubt it unless we believe that RJ and Randle would be able to find him more often then that. For me, Lonzo is the superior impact player as is Norm.

This is one of the worst takes that I have read on this board all year. I genuinely needed the laugh

Yeah Powell is a lot better than Trent to me. Powell has been putting up insane numbers as a starter. He might be on the level of someone like Middleton.

It’s like when lil bitches make subliminal records, if it ain’t directed directly at me, I don’t respect it

He is laughably bad. At least Payton and Frank would come cheaper. 1.2 free throw attempts as a starting PG requires really special skills. One would go to the line more just by accident. Dude is actively avoiding contact because he knows he is horrible at the free throw line.

Re: Lonzo Ball - What's your opinion of him?
per wiretap:
Lonzo Ball has interest in signing with the New York Knicks in restricted free agency.
Leon Rose, for his part, reportedly prefers Ball over Victor Oladipo.
The New Orleans Pelicans appear undecided if they will trade Ball before the deadline.
ESPN's Bobby Marks doubts the Pelicans would match an offer sheet in restricted free agency starting higher than $18 million per season.

Well of course Pelicans wouldn't match. That is a ridiculous contract for a guy who won't go to the free throw line.

Frank hasn't scored a point in his last 53 minutes on the court. Frank is defensive specialist that's all

Detroit Pick and Knox sounds like the right price for him.
