Gotta say, I quite enjoy my prison here, where I can see friends, go out for meals, and where no one in the province has died from COVID in seven months.

I was fortunate enough to escape Toronto back in January and am living in Miami at the moment until the police-state restrictions back home are over, so traveling to Texas is just a quick flight. I realize it's a bit more difficult for Jays fans back home who are effectively imprisoned in Canada, but I imagine there are tons of snowbirds here in Florida who must be considering it! Maybe we can get a post-game meetup going!

Most of us have more sense than that, but you do you.

Which province are you in? Sounds nice.

Nova Scotia. God's country.

More sense than.. the entire state of Texas? Ok then.

I mean they are likely going to sell out every game this season, and more ballparks are set to open at 100% capacity in the coming weeks. If you guys want to stay (inside) on your high horses and act like you are more virtuous than them, then by all means - you also do you. I'll be at the ball game!

(Funny I've gotten a few private messages since people can't be bothered with the judgement here. If anyone else is gonna be there PM me.. I'll try and organize a post-game meetup!)

Many times yes, awesome place to visit. Fun fact, Texas has a larger economy than all of Canada, albeit having almost 10 million fewer people... then must be doing something right ;)

Seriously speaking between being in Texas and Ontario at the moment, I would choose Texas in a heartbeat (although I ended up choosing Miami). Ontario is just miserable at the moment, so it's kind of a no-brainer. I've actually helped a lot of friends escape down here to the US over the last couple of months.

But to get back on topic, their home opener will be a blast! I'm sure the Blue Jays themselves will enjoy playing in front of sold out crowds again.

Texas is 13th in GDP per capita amongst US states. Maybe that number doesn't mean everything you think it means? And it also has little to nothing to do with Covid restrictions and public health guidelines.

Lolll.... really grasping at straws here eh? I bet you yourself googled and saw that Texas has a (significantly) higher GDP per capita than Canada, in addition to a larger economy overall (although having a much smaller population), so I won't bother pointing it out to you :P

I am willing to bet you have never even been there, so this is a pointless conversation and I will stop feeding the trolls. Enjoy your lockdowns ;) I'll post some pics from the ball game!

Ok, let me dumb it down for you a little bit. Your big complaint is about Covid restrictions apparently destroying your life. You decided to use GDP per capita as a defense of Texas choosing to let large crowds gather together. "Their GDP per capita is so high, they must know what they are doing!" This is silly for a couple reasons. The first is that there are lots of other US states with higher GDP per capitas that have more restrictive covid protocols. Do those states know more than Texas? According to your criteria, they do! So it turns out more covid restrictions are better, I guess. Secondly, using GDP per capita to argue for or against specific public health guidelines is very stupid. It would be like using Moderna's stock price going down recently as a reason to support fully opening up businesses and removing mask mandates. There is no correlation or any reason at all to connect those two things.

And yes I have been to Texas. Dozens of times. There are a lot of very stupid things their government does, quite frequently. You also seem to have a bizarre belief that you are owning the libs or something by going to the game. No one gives a **** other than to tell you that having a packed stadium is a dumb policy choice. I hope you do have fun and don't get sick. That doesn't make the decision any smarter.

You mean the state that decided to deregulate and privatize their entire power grid which led to catastrophic failure because all companies involved were too cheap to prepare for the worst case scenario? Then blamed it on green energy sources instead of themselves?

Also, imagine being smug about a regular season baseball game that happens over a hundred times annually.

You can have a house party with no masks or distancing?

Until then you're not doing anything normally.

10 people plus the people who already live in the house.

And also no one said things were back to "normal".

Can we have a safe space here to talk sports and not make this yet another Covid thing?

Nope. I mean, you do in stores/restaurants, but that's just common sense. And I've felt exactly none of my freedom drain away just because people cannot see whatever gormless, slack-jawed expression I've likely had for months now that I don't have to bother putting on my being-in-public face.
