GAME DAY, BALA! GAME 39: SPURS AT BUCKS, 20-3-2021, 8PM (CT)

Post#1 » by G R E Y » Sat Mar 20, 2021 6:19 pm

At long last yet already here is the fifth and final road game in seven days. We're travel weary yet battle tested; we've played a lot of minutes yet have a full team; we've come back from big deficits and defended big leads. We'll need all our resolve to tap into the deeper well of recent experience and put together a full team effort for a final strong push for success.

Oh. Both have been playing a ton of minutes. We'll have to strategically go this route at times this second half of the season:

We look half asleep a few minutes in. Yikes.

Passes out of bounds, into players heads and just a general look of jogging around the court without effort.

Derrick White hasn't looked himself at all since returning. Which is a big worry.

Keldon is smart though, knowing the defense would be aware of all his points off drives last night, he calmly drains an early three to keep them honest.

And we get up by 12 and the Bucks change to zone and go on a 15-0 run.

And now down 7 at the half.

Demar is horrible against the zone. Get him out.

Getting up 14 was a pleasant surprise, but giving up the 15-0 run was unfortunate. It was really at least as much self-inflicted with our misses and not taking advantage of their misses and our steals. One and done shots the other way wasn't the way.

Like Phreak said, we have to break down their zone D better.

We're only 3-10 from 3 and only 3-3FT's, so there's room for improvement. We on the second game of a travel back-to-back so we have to find some reserve energy and stay mentally sharp to get back in the game.

Let's get after it, Spurs!

White doesn't look right.

Forcing a bunch of semi-contested threes and hanging his head multiple times on team errors.

Does he still wanna be here?

Some missed opportunities here with Derrick who hasn't hit a 3 all night but keeps taking them rather than Keldon or Lonnie or Rudy or even Drew who has actually made one for goodness sake!

Career high for Lonnie.

Effortless. This is the Lonnie I believe in.

Keldon has been quite good too.

White's been horrible. Absolutely horrible. I'm eating my words saying he was the starting point guard over Murray. Swap them tonight and we may have won.

Poetl as always good on D but completely useless on offense.

And I don't care how many shots he makes, Rudy Gay is a chucker and shoots us out of any potential rhythm. There's no reason to the pull-up twos or
standing still threes he takes. He can get those shots a hundred times a game and the D will always give them to him. Send him to a team wanting some bench help, contending for the title.

And same with Mills. We didn't miss him at all on the bench tonight. Our D improved X10 without him.

We need to find a quality front court with our free agent money.

Just didn't have enough juice for enough of the game. We fought hard, though. You could tell we weren't of the mail-it-in mindset. But when fatigue sets it, the legs and metal mistakes increase. Lots more to say, but despite the mistakes, proud of our heart.

I agree with you on White. I was about to go off on him last night but he pulled it together at the end. Not sure about Murray being better overall but White has been awful. I'll let the season play out because he really has missed a lot of games, but he needs to start making some shots.

White tried to beat Brooke Lopez off the dribble a couple times, failed and backed out to the three point line.

He has never been speedy but he looks broken. Same as his jumper.

And body language...

I said wow when watching it live and had to find the highlights to watch it again.

This crossover first step and step back jumper by Lonnie is sweet af.

Edit: won't let me link the timestamp...it's at 1:45

I'm glad he had a good game. I hope he figured some things out. But he has a loooooooong way to go to prove to me he is anything but a bit player.

He has had 2 games like this in three years? Even his own teammates didn't feed him in the 4th when he was hot.

He has to be more consistent which I'm sure the entire coaching staff would say. He doesn't have to score 30 every night . I guess he's been a pretty consistent double figure scorer over the last 15 games or so.

I hope he proves it. Hopefully we can look back at this game and say it was a start.
