Not fully blaming this on losing Ibaka but after seeing Baynes this season....what a royal screw-up by the Raptors front office by not giving Serge what he wanted.

If we kept ibaka we’d be somewhere like the 7th spot and people would be complaining that we’re treadmillimg and we have no hope of winning anything.

Without him we may get a top 5 pick. It could be a long term W.

Ibaka also doesn’t fit the timeline of our core so I’m not too mad at losing him.

It’s fine to look at the silver lining but there is no sugarcoating that Masai screwed up this offseason. It’s fine if things didn’t work out between us and Ibaka but look at the trash replacements Masai signed instead. Not only that but he’s failed to make a trade, waive Baynes, or make another change to address this untenable situation.

Remember also the goal was to compete this year to attract Giannis in the summer. Needless to say, Masai has been a let down this season.

Maybe. We can’t really know what’s going on behind closed doors and what conversations have been had. I’m sure Masai knows baynes sucks.

But maybe the actual plan this year was to tank after giannis signed the extension? I mean who knows. Management can’t really come out and point blank say we’re tanking.

Why would the Heat trade Herro for a rental?

Because they're going for it? Thats what contenders do.

Im sure the Heat are gonna start with Nunn + 1st as their base but that's not nearly enough for Kyle Freakin Lowry

you can definitely be salty bro. some stuff that was said :noway:

It's okay.

At the end of the day, the reality is what we had anticipated. Fully healthy and probably we are the 6-8 seed, but COVID has hit everyone so who is to say.

Hopefully the management sees this and tries to tank the ROS and we can get into the top 5.

Season is long, even a shorten one. I truly believe in our lack of talent. Wasnt worried for the tank at all.

I kind of feel bad for these people getting stressed over these games. Like what are you cheering for? A first round exit?

Most people who don't like the idea of TWO watch a game and cheer for good play, competition, and winning that game. They watch the game. And fighting for playoffs, championships, individual accolades, these are added pleasures and meanings to each game they watch.

I kind of feel bad for people who think they watch games, but really they're not watching basketball. They're just re-running a fantasy that has to do with getting a trophy. Like what are you cheering for? What happens after a season?

One thing is to be bad but they aren't even interesting to watch especially without no superstars. Pelicans have the same record, but I'd rather watch them than the Raptors.

Or we can package both Lowry and Powell....and target the Dallas Mavericks around a trade involving Porzingus.

Lowry and Norm for Porzingis + Richardson and a protected 1st I would do.

No, tanking hasn’t been part of the cards. We were streaking and sitting in 4th until COVID protocols hit us. We’ve been trying to compete but bad luck and a flawed roster now have us in this position.

We’ll know we’re tanking once we start playing younger guys more minutes. For now, we’re still trying to make the playoffs.

The thing about tanking is that if a draft is deemed to be strong, the Raptors will fall to the worst possible pick.

Remember when people said this team was a Kawhi away from being the best team in the East and to make that trade would be similar in in terms of value given.

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

That would be the worst case scenario. If we drop from say 7 to 9, or 5 to 7, etc. It’s a gamble. Don’t really have a better option though sadly.

It’s interesting to see how every team in the league has embraced ball movement. Even the freakin Cavs look like the Golden state Warriors in their prime against us.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Curry changed the league. Feel like Kerr got influence from the 2014 spurs as well.

Basketball Gods are taking this season as a sacrifice for the Championship.

Also Giannis signing the extension is clear warning to move on and go another route. Another sign is the Covid, they are showing the way.

People are going to write long winded post about things have changed when they jump on the bandwagon. People who insisted that tankers are losers and tanking isn't a viable strategy will say they weren't wrong in the first place. It's the NBA refs or COVID has effectively ruined the season (but not really, team wasn't good enough with either of those factors)
Also the same people were throwing up personal attacks back in jan.

I don't remember who was tWo back in 2013 and who was on team Mediocre back then

I know what I was personally ( I wanted Exum smfh ) but I don't really remember what other posters specifically wanted. Can't remember who was pro Wiggins and who was Pro Jabari. Although I do remember that the Pro Jabari crowd were being called 'hipsters' wanting to stand out

My point is nobody is gonna remember **** the next time there's a tanking debate

There is no franchise player on this team. When you don’t have a franchise player, you need to acquire one by drafting. Hopefully raps get some lotto lock and get one of the big 3.

Team mediocre never had a plan. All they wanted was the team to win just to feel good.

So what happens after we get knocked out in the first round? Lose Norm & Lowry for nothing all because we wanted to make the bubble playoffs. Then keep hoping these late picks and undrafted continue to be gems. Delusional

Not to mention we might even be on the verge of losing Masai as well

Return to Toronto Raptors
