Maybe we sniff at him then, but he isn't even close to the first guy I'd first want to target. That man would be Tobias Harris, and would trade quite a bit to get him. But only if Collins can't ball by the end of this year. Same goes for Nurkic.
it makes no sense at all, IMO, for Portland to pivot any of their plans on Zach Collins. He isn't that good when he's healthy. So far, he has been something of a tweener big man with big flaws at both positions. He doesn't have the footspeed to stay with all the stretch-4's and SF's masquerading as PF's in the 'new' NBA. And he doesn't have the strength to muscle up true post C's. Those are the two main reasons why he was always in foul trouble
he's a role player who can't stay healthy and he's due for a new contract. Worse is that a quick glance at the 2017 draft shows how many all-star & starting-level and players Olshey passed up to take Zach. The opportunity cost of Zach has been high and the payoff has been really poor. That equation will only get worse if Portland passes opportunities for upgrades because of Zach's very debatable potential
if Portland could reasonably add a player like Gordon and they didn't because they were waiting on Zach, it would be major mismanagement
