Re: Official Speculation Thread '20-'21 VII: Magic Expected To Retain Core
I'm not particularly worried about Gordon's trade request becoming public killing his value because the Magic can just hold onto him if they feel like it.
A team who really wants him now, especially if they're pushing for the playoffs like a Brooklyn, Denver or Portland, is still going to be willing to pay the same amount because the key is getting him for two playoff runs and not just one.
Plus those teams wouldn't be able to sign him outright when he becomes a FA... which isn't for a year and a half.

Alex Martins must have some real dirt on the DeVos family, otherwise it's just inexplicable how he still has a job.

In all seriousness, he's good on the business side. I just don't understand how he has any influence on the basketball side of things. There needs to be an experienced basketball/sports person in the CEO position with Martins overseeing just the business side of things if they want to keep Martins around.

Alex Martins' job is to make the DeVos family as much money as he possibly can by making the Magic as profitable as he can possibly make them.
The unfortunate reality is that the on-court success is not nearly as big of a factor to that financial success as people wish that it was.

" The 25-year-old wants to be in a winning situation that will help him fulfill his basketball potential and maximize his profile by being in a large market with plenty of branding opportunities. He demonstrated promising basketball and marketing value with his early career success, particularly in the legendary slam dunk contest battle with Zach LaVine in 2016. But as Orlando has been stuck on the treadmill of mediocrity in recent years, his Q rating and standing in the league has clearly plateaued."

Isn't his shoe brand with a Chinese company? Are the Rockets good (Yao ming) or bad (Daryl Morey) for that image?

Would it be the worst thing in the world if a team missing Fultz and Isaac to season ending injuries and staring at a top 5 pick (hopefully) traded the farm and became the OKC Thunder with a never ending wealth of future first round draft picks?

Funny (sad) thing. OKC received all those picks & still had/has a much better record than us in those 2 seasons, in a harder conference, while we were trying to win

I'd rather have the number 5 pick and whatever Vuc brought in than #7 and Vuc. I can't believe we could trade Vuc for a top 5 pick in this draft, so if we are at risk of falling out of the top 5 there is value in the void in talent created by moving him and just bottoming out. It's hard to tell what this front office is committed to.
I'd prefer to keep Vuc and have the front office commit to this year's draft, but it seems like we are still chasing the playoff game.

when they trade AG & Fournier it will become pretty evident they're all in on this years draft.... hopefully that's what happening and AG is the domino before Fournier's
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Hopefully. Part of me expects a vet coming back like Rubio or Barton.

OKC draft picks are result of trading multiple allstars.
But once you break down their draft picks, it's nothing special really.
2021:
own pick (7-14 range at least it looks that way)
Heat first round ( not lottery )
Warriors pick that will probably transform into Minessota second round pick
Rockets pick swap- but top 4 protected
2022:
Clippers pick that won't touch lottery
Suns first rounder - heavily protected
2023
Clippers or their own first round pick (better one , not both )
Heat pick lottery protected
Nuggets pick lottery protected
Once you put it on the table, they will probably draft 6 players and other than their own, not a single one wlil land in lottery.
Maybe it's not terrible salary vise, later picks are cheap, but at some point players and positions will just start to overlap and at some point you have to build a team, since picks don't play basketball.
OKC had 3 future HOFs in their prime, and 3 league's MVP on a team and made it to nba finals once. They are cow that gives you most milk, but kicks whole bottle later.

There’s nothing special about AG or Evan either.
Orlando is one of the few teams which owns all their future picks at the moment.
The rumor is we want 2 firsts for AG and 1 for Evan.
I don’t care if they are late first rounders. They can be packaged together later or used to add depth. Finding a way to get value out of those picks is a problem for another day. Getting value out of Evan and AG is clearly a lost cause.

I would actually like Rubio on this roster as the starter for next years team until Fultz comes back healthy, then as the mentor/back-up to him and Anthony when Fultz comes back.

Rubio is a good player, propably better than Fultz will ever be. Rubio/Fournier/Isaac/Aminu/Vucevic is a sneaky good team. With top 4 draft pick we would be competetive and with high ceiling. I would also want Nowell, he looks fluid.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I just read that the Kings have made Bagley available......Gordon is from NoCal, wondering we can make something happen there
I know they arent contenders right now, but that teams has some real talent there with Fox, buddy, haliburton, holmes has been a stud lately, barnes is a good role model for AG, whiteside and likely a high draft pick this year
