Tonight he went 2/7 FG's at 28.6%
Pretty standard in 2020/21 for him. He's been worked out.

<“They’ll try to keep him, and they’re willing to pay,” said one assistant GM. The salary range for Graham appears quite broad, as it could range from anywhere between $52 million and $64 million over four years, according to team executives polled by B/R.>

That is a lot of money. A whole lot of money.

Paying Graham 10 million per year is stupid. He is an average backup PG, emphasis on backup. You can sign players for 5 million that are just as good as he is.

With ball down I’d like to see Charlotte sign a vet pg like Napier to see how he compares to Graham. I want to be convinced he’s actually better than a journeyman

Both Graham and Monk should he thankful for this opportunity to showcase, both can inflate their paydays based on how they finish the season.

jesus this board turned on Devonte' fast if he's not worth 4/52. That was the max we could offer him in an extension after last season, and I'm sure we did.

I was going to make a joke about how Graham is head and shoulders above Napier in every respect...but it turns out they're actually the same height. Ah well.

I agree with your general sentiment though, let's see how he compares to replacement level guys before making a big investment.

Call it the Carlos Boozer effect - 2nd rounders getting major dollars ahead of their low-first-round brethren, who are locked in due to the salary scale. Graham landed in the right situation and will benefit greatly from that turn of fortune. But he's at an age, that he is what he is as a player, pretty much fully developed. The Hornets know what they have. So, it won't be criminal for Charlotte to let him walk for big money when the time comes.

Bruh. What are they seeing that we aren't? His stats and percentages are terrible. 52-64 million dollars eh? That'd be an unmitigated disaster.

Would be nice if this leaked so it'd help his trade value by Thursday.

52/4 would put him right amongst these guys cap hit wise:
Ricky Rubio
Eric Bledsoe
Patrick Mills
Marcus Smart
Patrick Beverley
Cory Joseph
Jordan Clarkson
George Hill
Delon Wright
Tyus Jones

Would he really look out of place on that list?

Fans can be so fickle. They are either calling for guys to get paid the max (as many were in Dec 2019 related to Graham), or the super max (as they were with Walker - which would have been a massive, massive mistake) or they have been about Monk...

or

they want to pay guys peanuts.

I've said in another thread that the Hornets are found money, and Graham typifies the idea as a fully-formed, successful college senior from a major program that was found in the second round. He's not transcendent, but solid, which is what you'd expect from a known commodity like Graham. He'll be paid as high usage rotation player, but not as a starter (which he's not). Graham's value is in the Lou Williams contract Williams signed with the Clippers. Anything more is an overpay.

Who moves the needle on that list? Smart? To a lesser extent Clarkson? These are the Zeller/MKG/Marv contracts that ruin teams cap flexibility. Let Devonte walk or try to trade him if he doesn't take $8-$10 million per year for 2-3 years max.

Likely none of them, but the market dictates price and that's the price point of these types of players.

You could always go into the bargain bin with these types of players (who are all cheaper than the ones I posted above at around 5mil per year):
D.J. Augustin
Ishmael Smith
Avery Bradley
Elfrid Payton
Kris Dunn
Jevon Carter
Austin Rivers
T.J. McConnell
Michael Carter-Williams
Trey Burke

I'd rather give these types 1 year minimum deals with a team option for a second than ruin our cap on overpaying for mediocre talent.
