This is the moment I've been waiting for... Welcome to the Kings, Cabin Jelly!
Seriously though, looks like the Clippers are ready to make a move.

Re: [Woj] Kabengele to the Kings
I wouldn't assign any meaning to it. It saves them tax dollars no matter what they do and they didn't give anything, really, to save that money. Probably why they did it. Maybe the roster spot does end up coming in handy, maybe notzimpy27 wrote:Roster spot must be for buyout right? Does that signal no more trades for Clips? One would assume they would have just attach Kabengele in a trade if they were to make one.

It feels deeper. If a trade was going to happen then Clips could just move Kabengele for free as part of that trade.

That would require an extra roster spot on the part of the other team, which can get logistically burdensome if it requires them to waive a player currently on their roster. This deal was closed a lot quicker because the Kings did have an empty roster spot and a TPE. It also gives the Clippers a little wiggle room in case they pull off another deal where they receive more players, but not more salary, than they send out.

Re: [Woj] Kabengele to the Kings
I don't think just any other team would/could (need a tpe or to match salary) take him on for free, better to get it out of the way and have the flexibility if you need it, save money if you don't. They could've just cut him otherwise if they needed to, but they didn't, they traded him, seemingly before anything was lined up, which makes perfect sense, they found someone to take him for freezimpy27 wrote:K_chile22 wrote:I wouldn't assign any meaning to it. I’m assuming and hoping it means whiteside and Bjelica gone.

Chris Paul and Monty Williams turn Whiteside into a difference maker for small stretches!!! The Suns play slow and methodical so he'd fit.

So, to dump a 2m salary (which has 730k left?), costs 2.7m.
When we talk about 'send cash to cover the remaining salary', we need to really be saying send 2m more than remaining salary.

In this case I think its rich owner of a team with an asset problem on one side and a team with extra 2nds and losing tens of millions of dollars like everyone else on the other.
So instead of dumping a 2nd and $800K, both teams liked it better using cash as the grease.

Yep. But my point remains, to dump Poirier (2.6m), it might cost 3-3.5m even if he is only owed ~1m left. Or basically, a real 2nd.
These small dumps have slightly less small costs.

Makes sense to add a little more money as opposed to a real 2nd. Still like the trade for both. Clippers open a spot, Kings get the players contract paid and they get paid to take a look at him.

Even if he never steps on the floor this was a good move for Sac. Teams are hurting so if you can squeeze a few million out of Balmer to ease the pain why not.
