Celtics Considered Frontrunners To Trade For Aaron Gordon, Nuggets Remain In Mix

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Mar 23, 2021 5:21 am

The Boston Celtics are considered the frontrunners to trade for Aaron Gordon, sources told Matt Moore of The Action Network (also confirmed by The Athletic).

The Celtics have reportedly offered two first-round picks in exchange for Gordon. It is not known what protections will be added to the draft picks.

The framework of the trade also includes Evan Fournier going to the Celtics, with the Celtics trading another player while using their Trade Player Exception.

The Magic prefer Marcus Smart, though the Celtics are reluctant to part with the guard.

The TPE is not eligible to be used with more than one player, making other teams likely to join the trade.

The Nuggets are also contenders to trade for Gordon with Bol Bol, Will Barton, and draft compensation on the table.

The Magic prefer Marcus Smart, though the Celtics are reluctant to part with the guard.

There are only two player's on the Magic's roster currently worth trading away Smart, and they're' not Gordon.

Ainge is finally ready to break the seal and he’s going to do it for Gordon?

Meh, I'm a Philly fan so would love an excuse to bash Ainge, but in past trade proposals people make fun of him for he's usually been asked for like Jaylen Brown and a couple 1sts for someone who might walk in a year. Building around two young AS guys in Brown and Tatum is a good strategy, if he can keep that intact and get Gordon+Fournier for a couple of late 1sts.

^The book on Ainge is that he really only wants to do deals that he clearly wins, otherwise prefers to stay the course with his good-enough young core. Gordon and Fournier for two late 1sts sounds like a clear win to me.

I have little faith in our joke of a FO with their “let’s just do nothing and see if we win the championship this year” approach, but why do we presume that Ainge will get one of our few, more valuable trade pieces for two trash picks? This seems like a “leak” to push Gordon’s value down further so that he can dictate where he goes more easily.

Edit: I now see that this article has the Magic trading their ONLY two valuable trade pieces for two trash picks... I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened, because our FO is pretty awful, but it still seems a little wishful on the part of the C’s. Also, I wonder how many “defensive minded” guards that can’t shoot can make it onto the same NBA roster. I guess the Magic may try to pioneer that strategy.

Ainge will only make this trade if the Magic throws in 3 unprotected first-round picks for him taking Gordon off of their hands.

what a joke...I think we can all guess where this "news" is coming from, right? I doubt Magic will give up Gordon for a TE and a tu*d like Smart.
