Re: Cameron Thomas - LSU
i don't see lotto at all, granted his scoring repertoire is pretty ridiculous, but really offers almost nothing else to an offense, mostly a one-read guy, no semblance of an ability to run an offense really, more of a bench scorer, which is valuable, but not sure how high at this point.
Watford is the much better prospect on LSU

black hole
good for lsu because he's what they need but not really what nba teams necessarily want at this moment given the amount of talent available.

Hes what I expected malik newman to be in college. Ridiculously polished offensive game. Plays more like a 6'5/6'6 shooting guard e.g devin booker than your typical 6'3 combo guard. I dont really know what separates him from the likes of past lotto guys w/ similar physical profile/skillset. Imo he's a better nba prospect than senior cj mccollum and he went 10th overall despite being undersized and coming from a even smaller school Lehigh.

Re: Cameron Thomas - LSU
he's not really a combo guard at all, just a pure SG with no discernable PG skills at this point, which is fine, but in today's NBA that role is relegated to being a bench scorer.
he's like one of 6 or 7 college players ever with 17+ fga per game while having <10% assist rate, it's actually pretty extreme, especially coming from a FS.

Re: Cameron Thomas - LSU
I don't see why he can't be a starting SG in the league or a Crawford-lite off the bench. And yes, he is a one dimensional scorer. That still warrants a lotto pick given the scoring tools that jump out. Apparently, I am not the only one to have this revelation, as DX just posted as much today.

Yeah Cooper and Thomas are two guys I was sold on as 1st round picks relatively early due to their offensive game, but they haven't demonstrated that much more in the last year for me to drastically move them up. They're going to be liabilities on defense and aren't so great on offense to be a team's primary creator.

So what? He’s a 6th man microwave guy. Easiest archetype to find in the league.

Yeah, my assessment still stands. Tell this to my Grizzlies - that a microwave NBA level scorer off the bench is easy to find.

definitely the easiest archetype to find outside like a rebounding big or something, the Nets themselves have 3 of them right now (Thomas, Seth, Patty). undersized score-first guards are a dime a dozen.

Re: Cameron Thomas - LSU
I wasn't arguing with you that it is a common archetype, but not every team has a bench option with that kind of punch, much to my frustration.
As for Cam, I would still have taken him lotto- nothing changed.

i mean some are better than others obviously and it varies in terms of impact but again, undersized, score-first guards are the easiest NBA archetype to find.
again, the Nets have 3 currently on the roster. the Warriors have Poole. Denver has Hyland. Miami has Herro. Charlotte has Rozier. Detroit has Ivey. Houston has KPJ, Gordon and Green. Minny has D Lo. New York has D Rose and IQ. you can keep going down the list.
getting scoring guards that don't really do much else for you is easy. there are few available and available late (like Cam Thomas) every year, you can even find some in free agency.

There is a wide variance to these guys because you also have Steph, Dame, Kyrie, Mitchell, Simons, Brunson, CJ ect who could be called undersized score-first guards.

Re: Cameron Thomas - LSU
I agree with both of you. I suppose I just continue to have a preference for Cam Thomas' level of scoring relative to some others - common archetype and all. I was more bemoaning the sorry state of the Grizz bench than questioning anything. I would like Hyland for my team as well.
As for the examples given: Herro went lotto, as did Ivey, Green, Gordon, Rose, D Lo....

again, varying degrees of these archetypes. most, like a Poole and Thomas, who are exclusively on-ball and don't play any defense and can't really run an offense, should be relegated to the bench as microwave scorer types.
but yea, these dudes are a dime a dozen. it's much more difficult finding legit multi-level bigs, or two-way wings or lead guards/playmakers that can be your offensive hub, even more difficult to find scalable 3/D types.
Cam Thomases and Jordan Pooles and Jordan Clarksons and Bones Hylands are fun to watch because they can put up points quickly but it often happens with little impact on the game and they usually have major holes in their games that should limit their roles on a team.
