A follow-up move or two to establish a primary playmaker on this team could change my mind, but right now we didn't just trade for Vuc, we traded for becoming the Orlando Magic. The same problems Vuc had there, he will have here. He needs a real PG. So does LaVine.

At what point do you take yourself out of rebuild mode? At what point do you establish yourself as one of the up and coming playoff teams and take advantage of your big market and show you’re one star away from being a championship contender? There’s a reason why Orlando Magic’s of the world stay in the state they are in. Constantly hitting the reset button every 5 years because they aren’t in position to compete right now.. there are stars who demand trades every single year and every single year Chicago isn’t on their list. Why? Because the former management never was aggressive to build a playoff bound team with the mindset of saying “we aren’t realistically going to win anything so why go for it?”

Hopefully this way of thinking is DONE. Tired of drafting the Lauri’s Wendells Coby Whites of the world and passing on available talented stars. Focus on today stop thinking about 4 or 5 years down the line when we don’t even have a Lamelo Ball or Anthony Edwards or Luka etc.. to do that with..

We legitimately can enter the top 5 seed in the East with this move. This will look so good for pending FAs who are looking for a good team that’s right on the brink.

I couldn’t agree more it’s crazy how after all these failed draft picks in the last 20 years people are still trying to do the same thing.

Other than Golden State in recent years who is really won a championship off just draft picks?

How can people rather take a risk on a an unproven rookie then a guy that’s an all-star.

Exactly. I'm done praying for draft picks. All of our picks pretty much since the Butler draft 10 years ago have been bust after bust after bust. Enough already

Wow the lanes are gonna be wide open now that youre gonna need to guard Vucevic or it's cash from outside. Can't leave him open like Wendell

Another thing , it's a win in the sense that Zach should get a jolt. Lately he has just looked defeated and you can tell that playing with all these bums is taking a toll on him mentally

(i guess it's debatable if zach qualifies as a plus passer? but i feel like the amount of defensive attention he draws and his willingness to pass makes up for his sloppiness and the fact that he's not a natural creator for others)

defense, yeesh is right but at least we have a big body at the 5? i also think getting rid of lauri and shifting coby to a bench shooter role (or trading him too!) could go a long way on that front

I probably misspoke earlier. I dont think we'll struggle on offense, we should be good. We'll just have to be VERY good to make up for whats gonna happen on D. Zach is not a plus passer to my eye. He's average for an SG, but he's an SG thats being asked to do way too much ballhandling. And yeah, making more moves could make this make more sense. But right now, the roster still isn't ready to be more than mediocre imo.

If the Bulls traded Zach for a package like this I'd be really pissed. That says it all imo.

Jimmy Butler for Zach Lavine, Dunn and 7th pick.

It's kind of a weird trade. I'm skeptical from our perspective. But on the other hand, I can't say the Magic killed it or anything.

We really should be a playoff team now, so the picks aren't huge value.

To me the biggest loss of value is what our '21 pick could have been if we did a slight teardown. That could have been a top 5-8 pick.

Unlikely we'd decline enough to have a worse record than Cleveland or Washington. I.e., "best case scenario," we'd be at the 7th spot.

And I think we all know how that 7th spot has worked for us thus far...

this just opened up so much room in the offense. Now it actually might make sense to get Ball, or failing that, to start Sato.

That is a lot to give up for a 30 year old. Really was kinda interested in more draft picks from AK. This is a lot to digest

After the draft AK said that he never picked that high before (when he was with the Nuggets) and hopes that he never has to again.

5th-7th in the lottery is a very nice place to be under the new odds.

Best case scenario we'd have a top 4 pick (roughly 40% chance of happening at the 5th/6th spot which is very high).

This is an amazing deal! The top 4 protected is a good safety bet, but it better not matter because we gotta push for playoffs now or something really went wrong with our staff/coaching.

Y'all, Vucevic has 2 more years on his contract. So we get three years to hopefully make playoffs with Vuc and Lavine (and whoever else we keep building with). That's what I immediately think about when I see Vuc at "30". And I think, Vuc, his style of play, at 32 is still gonna be pretty similar.
-Dude is a solid man, I don't expect his rebounding to diminish.
-His post moves have developed to be VERY strong ... maybe some of that will diminish, but I wouldn't think too much in the 30-32 range (maybe more after that though).
-He's become one of best 3P shooting big men., I def don't think that will change over next 3 years.

So the only concern about age I have is what we may think about / do with the next possible contract offer. And that's three years away.

But here is what's so exciting to me, and what a freaking find of gem all around. Vucevic contract is a DECLINING contract!!! 26 mil this year, 24 mil next year, 22 mil in 2023. Talk about leaving some flexibility for roster management. (Aminu does have a 10 mil player option I'd expect him to take next year).

It puts us at 96 mil next season without Lauri (but with Aminu/Sato/Thad/Hutch = 38mil). If the cap stays at expected ~112 range, that's only 16 mil space. But Hutch is 4 mil (I hope we trade off), and Sato and Thad are partially guaranteed so there is flexibility for our FO to work with if we wanted to sign say Ball (but this would all be easier if we could trade for him now).

Arturas Karnisovas in November:

He was making the final draft decisions for an organization for the first time as well as picking fourth overall on Wednesday night.

“I never picked that high,’’ Karnisovas said, referring to his days in the Nuggets’ front office. “In the draft, when you pick fourth, you have to like four guys. In a way, it was a little bit easier than liking 20 guys.

“We realized that we’re hopefully never going to be in that situation again and pick that high.’’

LOVE LOVE LOVE this trade. Vuc was first on my wish list but didn't think AK could get it done. He proved me wrong. We have 2 freaking all-stars again. Lavine and Vuc pick and roll will be absolute fire.

On London time catching up with the news.... wow is this all for real?

At the very least this shows that AK is going to be aggressive in re shaping the roster. Personally I love these moves. Now onto Lauri.
