I actually really like Daniel Gafford and have posted about him quite a bit.

Gafford is intriguing as a young rim protector. Hutchison played 7 games this season. Did get more athletic.

Gafford in 3 games vs the Wizards had 28 points and was 11-13 from the field with 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks in 41 minutes.

I think that was mainly against Lopez, though Bryant was still playing at the time. Just shows how bad we've been at the 5. He is intriguing though.

You were probably losing Wagner for nothing this offseason and TB didn't have a future here.

And I think his deal is non-guaranteed. He'll be a decent cheap backup center. He has basically no skills, but he's the first really athletic center we've had in a long time. Hutchison is like a very poor man's TBJ - picked about 7 picks after TBJ in the 2018 draft - seemed to make significant improvement last season before doing nothing this season. Deja vu. A very unexciting trade, but I'm ok with it.

I think Gafford will be the best rim protector we have. He is getting a block per game playing just 12 minutes.

I’m gonna miss Troy. He has untapped potential.

Thrilled to get Gafford...a rim protecting, athletic big. That’s something the Zards desperately need.

That's not exactly a high bar. Last time I checked, the Wiz were dead last in blocks.

I worry a bit that Beal's tweet means there is more to come.

Also, I don't hate the deal. Though I wish we could have developed Brown.

I like the deal for Troy. Not a lot I hate more than a team sabotaging a young players future. If you aren't going to play him, let Brown go to a team that's going to give him a chance. Chicago will run a motion-based offense and give Brown Jr a chance to initiate. At the same time, the big get for us is Gafford. Finally, we have an athletic big.

Troy's the best player in the deal, but I don't hate it. I wish we hadn't taken two total non-shooters back, but it is what it is. Swapping center archetypes in exchanging Wagner for Gafford is cool by me - getting a big who checks both the youth and athleticism boxes is a win just from a roster construction perspective.

Hutchison's kind of interesting too, another one of those offensive non-factor types with a couple anomalous defensive indicators (on a relatively small sample). Wonder if we slide him into some of our more offensively loaded lineups.
