well, WCJ only has 1 year left of rookie deal.

Well, I guess it's for the best but I didn't really expect this tbh. I'm a little sad to see him go, especially to a team that won't contend for a title in the near future either...

Finally.... the fire sale we all wanted and needed.

GOOBYE EVAN
GOODBYE VUC
GOODBYE AG (trash!!!)

It's beyond ironic to me that we never got a first rounder for a prime Dwight Howard in 2012, but we got two first rounders for Vuc - the guy we traded Howard for.

Old management vs new management I suppose.

I didn't necessarily enjoy watching them but they were here for so long. Someone like Aminu I could care less that he's gone.

Carter Jr. 7'5 wingspan

Vucevic 7'4.5 wingspan

Now we see why they made this change. 0.5 inch upgrade

They'll be fighting for a play in spot in my opinion. Will be very interesting to see how much better (if at all) Vuc makes them. I think we end up with 2 lottery picks this year.
Is the pick next season unprotected?

No disrespect to Vuc... Helluva career he made for himself, great guy, but he'll be happier in Chicago... and we can FINALLY move on! I've wanted this day for SO LONG!!!! I NEVER fooled myself into thinking that his trade value was as high as most thought. This is no doubt in range with his market. ...and it's actually nothing to be down about.

WCj is 21 years old. He's an athletic 6'10 build with a 7'5 WINGSPAN! Make no doubt, WCj was one of the better young available assets out there. Leading up to the deadline, Mike Schmitz wrote a nice article about him on ESPN.

In theory, Carter is the ideal center in today's NBA. On defense, he can guard away from the basket, offer some rim protection and rebound. On offense, he moves well as a dive man, can pass out of the short roll, can make an open jump shot and can beat a switch in the post. NBA scouts were enamored with how few holes Carter had in his game at Duke, and many thought of him as a better prospect than Sacramento Kings big man Marvin Bagley III, which has proven to be the case so far even with Carter's ups and downs.

Read on Twitter

Blending in, making the right play and doing the little things defensively has clear value on a team hoping to make a deep playoff run. Carter's sometimes passive nature can be frustrating for a team that drafted him seventh overall and sits in the final play-in spot in the East. But for a well-established veteran group that is in dire need of his defensive versatility, rebounding and passing, Carter's strengths would be accentuated.

Among 31 high-volume pick-and-roll defenders, Carter actually ranks seventh in fewest points allowed per direct screen when he's the big defender.

The fact that he's 8-of-22 from distance and posting a career-best assist-to-turnover ratio are silver linings. Although he might never be comfortable being more than a fourth or fifth option offensively, I'm still bullish that Carter can eventually become an NBA starter on a playoff team. That's good value for a seventh overall pick. He could benefit a young team such as the Charlotte Hornets searching for a potential center of the future.

Add in the 2 picks that we're getting, the pure tanking direction and top 5 pick, and all the room in the world for our young players to finally emerge out of the shadows.... I'm just beyond myself that this day has finally arrived for the Magic!!! :D :D :D

allstar is worth more than player who is projected to be 4th option on Nuggets? Shocking

i wish all 3 guys best luck and i hope they'll figure out. We are going nowhere for years now, anyway. Will be interesting to follow what they are doing. Feels like Harris trades, were we saved him from rotting.

I low key always liked Otto Porter (as a role player), but his stats seem in decline already.

Anyone know what's up with that?

Before Skin's eraction errupts, Wendell made no progress in year one to year to nor in year two to year three.
Esencially, Wendell, 3 years into his nba career is copy past same player he was at college.

It's also important to note guy is kind a fatty, 6'10- 270 pounds. His numbers are mostly all around negative, on both ends. And i was reading something about him month ago, that he is type of dude who gets depressed if he makes mistakes and just mentally checks out of a game.

Agree with the people who are excited about WCjr. Not sure what we do with Bamba/WCjr - but WCjr is a solid 5 who can fit into any scheme and doesn't need high usage.

We got market value here. I think it just stings a bit for some because it took WeltHam almost half a decade to figure out what most posters here already knew.. a big 3 of Vucevic Fournier Gordon isn’t leading you to anything other than a gentleman’s sweep in the first round..

If Carter Jr turns into anything more than a solid rotational big it’s a bonus, otherwise we cleared cap and got 2 lightly protected picks from a borderline Playoff team.

Most importantly we are tanking hard for the next 2 drafts. Anyone else wondering if Clifford will pull a Skiles??

The Orlando announcers will be in a huge mourning with the absence of Vuc. Vuc was like their own kid. It will be a very somber telecast the next several games

He's lihgt years ahead of where Vuc was at the same age. Not fatty at all.

and before you talk about his health, Vuc was a walking crutch early ...actually throughout his career as well.

ESPN Grades are in

Orlando Magic: B+

From the Magic's perspective, dealing the franchise's best player in the post-Dwight Howard era (Vucevic was acquired as part of the four-team trade that sent Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers) is an acknowledgment that the roster as currently constructed wasn't heading anywhere. Hit hard by injuries, Orlando is 14th in the East at 15-29 despite an impressive pair of recent wins over the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns.

With starters Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac both coming back from ACL injuries next season and starter Evan Fournier (later dealt to Boston) a free agent, it was unclear the Magic would be much better in 2021-22. That being the case, now was probably the right time to move Vucevic near the peak of his value, shortly after his second All-Star appearance. Pending a possible trade of Aaron Gordon later Thursday, the Magic can begin building around a Fultz-Isaac core with additional draft capital.

The most interesting part of the deal from Orlando's standpoint is whether Carter can prove part of that young core. The Magic surely evaluated Carter intently ahead of the 2018 draft, when they instead selected Mo Bamba one pick earlier. That hasn't worked out with Bamba, whose development has been slowed by the lingering effects of contracting COVID-19 ahead of last summer's NBA restart. As Orlando changes focus, both young centers should get plenty of opportunity, allowing the Magic to determine whether it's worth extending either player this summer ahead of possible restricted free agency.

Unlike Bamba, who has had a tough time staying on the court, Carter hasn't been ineffective. The issue is at a position where production is so easy to find cheaply, Carter wasn't keeping up. In the context of the average center posting a .602 true shooting percentage, Carter's marks the past two seasons (.590, .578) are blah, especially since he's not being asked to create much of his own offense. Carter is only OK as a rim protector and hasn't yet consistently made good on his advertised versatility to switch defensively -- something Steve Clifford's defensive scheme is unlikely to ask him to do.

The sum conclusion at this stage of his career is Carter is more likely to settle in as the quality backup and fringe starter he's been thus far rather than an above-average starting center. That said, he won't turn 22 until next month, which is why my ESPN colleague Mike Schmitz highlighted him earlier this week as a young player who could benefit from a change of scenery.

As long as Orlando doesn't feel compelled to elevate Carter organizationally -- for example, by signing him to an aggressive extension to justify this trade -- getting a young center with potential and two first-round picks with upside seems like a positive return for Vucevic.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Dammmmmmmmmn, I did not see them trading Vuc, did not really want them trading Vuc. Really believed if we bottomed out this year and retooled around Vuc and Isaac we could look up.

BUT, I am beyond pleased to see WeHam commit to a direction, value seems fair ish, not worried about the protection, they won't be near bottom 4. Don't have much opinions at all WCJr
I still believe in Magic! Welcome to the Franz & Paolo era
