He's absolutely guessing on that one, hoping it sticks, because MIA is the only logical landing spot remaining.

Don't know why people keep assuming this. They're the same number of games out of the playoffs (1.5) as they are to the 7th overall pick. I guess some view Vucevic as this super impactful guy, but IMO he's a Sabonis/Julius Randle level dude. The absolute best case scenario (treadmill team? mid-40ish wins?) doesn't really warrant the risk of the absolute worst case scenario here (give up two Top-10 picks).
Agreed. Vuc is solid. A decent number low end 2 high end three. But how much better does he make chicago? They go from 10 seed to 7 or 8 seed? Plus it's the east .. outside the top 3 all those teams are treadmill. This doesn't make them a top 4 or 5 seed. It made them better but it's the nba if you're not in the top 4 you need to be acquiring assets to get there.
Same here but they are just as close to like the 7th or 8th pick in this draft.. even if they get the four seed they will probably be a 45 win team max going forward. It's treadmill at its finest. They could then flip vuc next year but as bucks fans we saw this frequently. Just shuffling the deck to sit around 38-45 wins.

Or Patrick Williams takes a leap or Chicago trades for another big piece this summer and takes a leap.neiLz wrote:msiris wrote:They are only 3 games out of the 4th seed. Oh god! LOL
They're going to end up in an Ainge situation where they have to start cutting picks and not being able to develop anyone cause there's too many if they don't start packaging some of those.

They will have to find ways how to solidify assets or they're going to blow draft picks left right and center.

Yup and like the Celtics look for opposing teams to try to stick it to them when they try to consolidate in a trade come draft time. When everyone knows you can't make/keep all your picks their value take a hit.Matches Malone wrote:

Agreed that this makes them better. But we all know that it takes the superstar to put you over the hump. Until the bucks got Giannis they did these moves every couple years. We all know how dumb teams are with cap space...
If chicago hits on a stud free agent and some guys develop they got a shot... But the bucks in me is skeptical.
Orlando is doing what hammond does. Plays 6-8 seed basketball for a few years .. then signs everyone to long term deals and limits the teams ceiling... After a few 8 seeds trades everyone away gets cap space and then spends it on drew goodens.

What does projected mean? Is that a joke of is that how many they currently hold?
Problem is 25 or so of them aren't worth much as they are later picks. Maybe on each draft night they just try bunching all picks to move up a little or trading for future swaps to make them more valuable?

The easiest way to become a contender is to get the superstar. The easiest way to do it is via draft. Giving away picks to win 45 games max limits the chance at the super star.

Oh and I'm also a firm believer that you can only really develop about 5 young guys at once before it turns into a **** show that hurts everyone's development.
All that isn't to say what OKC is doing is bad, but they need to try and trade some of those picks in the near future.

Fournier for two second rounders is good business for the Celtics.

Sure but there also comes a point when you've been drafting in the lotto for a decade straight where the future superstar hope gets really old. In a vacuum what your saying makes sense but you can also lose a whole generation of fans if you suck long enough. Plus Chicago is a big enough market where in theory you should have a chance in FA or landing a disgruntled star. (Now in reality it hasn't been a glamor market)neiLz wrote:neiLz wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:Or Patrick Williams takes a leap or Chicago trades for another big piece this summer and takes a leap.

Basically a fan base can watch bad basketball for a few years and have fun dreaming about development and hitting tankathon dreaming about June. But after a while you just stop watching and after some lotto picks bust you stop getting as excited around the draft and you start to think 'hey I'll take 45 wins and actually watch some competitive basketball'

Magic did incredibly well for themselves getting 3 first round picks, two young prospects (Hampton/WCJ), and clearing all that future salary for two veterans who formed one of the most mediocre front courts in the league. The Fournier deal is kinda "meh" but at least it falls in line with the rebuild.

OKC could make the jrue holiday trade twice and still have 11 picks in their arsenal. Sheesh.
