I think some of these moves will help prevent that.

Vucevic is a really good player but this team is so not ready to compete for anything. A follow-up move or two to establish a primary playmaker on this team could change my mind, but right now we didn't just trade for Vuc, we traded for becoming the Orlando Magic. The same problems Vuc had there, he will have here. He needs a real PG. So does LaVine.
I agree with almost all of this except I do think we are much better positioned than Orlando. Regardless, I’m not at all happy about a meager top 4 protection.
Unless we make a move for a playmaker. Lonzo. Without that, our most glaring team need still has not been addressed and we just sent out the only assets we reasonably has to cure that ailment.
Keep in mind that top 4 protection is all you really want and is in no way “meager.” You can only jump up in the lottery into those four slots. If the season ended today, the Bulls could only draft 9 or later if they don’t jump into the top four, and you figure the Bulls’ position is only going to improve as a result of today’s trades.
Basically, top 4 is all you need if the team is going to be halfway decent. This only bites you if you decide to tank in 2022-2023.

That’s a great point. Thanks.
Though I’m still not sold this takes us out of the lottery unless a significant move comes in the next hour or so. As such, we could yet have given up the 7-10 pick in a draft with plenty of value there.
Part of what I’m having trouble with is that I view this team’s lack of playmaking and defense on the perimeter as the obvious huge problem. Without addressing that, now without our best tool to address it, it feels like we ignored the huge crack in the dam to upgrade the wiring instead.

About the age; he is not so dependent on athleticism that he will decline quickly. He’s going to age like Gasol.
Magic get a nice haul of picks and of course WCJ still has promise.
It’s just...a fair deal.

Just to back this up, the only way you can draft 5th is if you have one of the worst records in the NBA. Invariably with the new odds, a team or two is going to jump into the lottery from a low position and one of the worst teams is going to draft 5th.
Unless you think that there is a very good chance that Chicago will end up with a bottom 5 record this year or in 3 years, this is functionally top 6-7 protected.

One of the clear motivations behind this is to secure Lavine long term.

We need a follow-up move for this Vuc trade to make sense.
I don't think Lonzo is good enough though. We need a half-court playmaker.
You and I are in 100% agreement about the issues with this trade, and the need for something else to happen before it becomes a “win.”
If we’re done today, I’m not loving this at all.
However, I have a much higher opinion of Ball than you do. And I feel strongly he will continue to improve. So if we get Ball, or another legit playmaker, and are really going “all in” with a new core, I’m sold.
If not, I don’t see the intended endgame. We desperately need a playmaker. If we don’t trade for one now, and just jettisoned our first in a loaded draft, what’s the plan?

The Bulls obviously didn’t have the luxury of waiting on this trade to see if the Lonzo trade comes through, but one assumes their plan is to trade for Lonzo today and then, failing that, pursue him as a RFA. I agree the fit looks a lot better with a guard who can defend, pass, and handle the ball.

thats why you secure a deal first and then all in. why would you risk like having stds?
from the body language, i can easily tell lavine is a very hot tempered like donlad trump he could easily leave.
Dont trust him in every way.

how is it fair deal? theres a reason why you guys arent gms.
vuc was available for half the price and AG was more valuable yet nobody here suggested a trade a yr ago.
funny he makes all star now everyones like lets get him. This is like claiming lavine is a superstar after making all star.
