yep another guy that never watches actual games. i would thrist for all of them and pretty much the entire Raptor roster that is on trade rumors.

He’s a good role player, but people are acting like he’s the star pickup of this trade deadline. The man averages 19 ppg, cool, good for 38th in the NBA.

Strange way to assess a player

Normal Powell over his last three seasons:
59.6 TS%
62.4 TS%
64.5 TS%

Playoffs:
55.8 TS%
62.9 TS%
—- (tbd)

The allure isn’t simply about PPG. Lots of guys can put up PPG, the allure is that he puts up VERY efficient PPG. There’s a difference between having a guy like Normal Powell who is efficient and has shown he can maintain it in the post-season as your 6th man scorer vs having a guy like Lou Williams as your 6th man scorer. It’s pretty understandable why teams want him....

An even stranger way to assess a player is to claim someone doesn’t watch basketball because they don’t see the big deal about 19 PPG (even efficient). He would be a good addition to most teams, but my point was if he’s the guy holding up league wide trades and with 20+ teams fighting for him, it shows how weak this deadline drop is overall IMO. In previous years you’ve had way more impactful players leading the deadline.

I didn’t bring up PPG, that was their premise for attacking me, so I explained why it’s not unique/or special in this year of inflated scoring AND efficiency. It’s nice, he’d help most teams, but he’s far from a star player. Also don’t need to use the most extreme opposite in Lou. League wide efficiency is high right now.

With the Gary's traded, now the question is, will the first Cody to be traded in the NBA Happen today? The Hornets have the only two "Codys" in the history of the NBA on their roster, and I wouldn't be surprised if Zeller is moved

Yes, I’m not sure why we’re just isolating PPG. Also 38th in PPG is not in any way unimpressive for a guy playing 30.4 mpg. If we look per 100, Powell is 27th in pts/100. This is in addition to being 15th in the league in TS% and 2nd among guards in TS%. It’s pretty impressive, so I don’t get the downplaying. Maybe there’s something I’m missing.

League average TS% is 57.1%, Powell is 7.4% higher than league average, I’m still not understanding why you are downplaying it. And I can understand that PPG wasn’t brought up by you, but still, he’s a nice acquisitionm what’s the problem?

I mean he’s statistically a negative defender, poor rebounder, horrible playmaker. He’s a very efficient 19 ppg guy, who does little else. In 2021 a one dimensional player just isn’t worth much more than a good role player designation. Also ask others why they mentioned PPG because I didn’t bring it up, they did. Using that as premise for why I was clueless about his game.

I don’t see anything valuable the Lakers can offer the Raptors for Lowry. Keep Lowry or trade him to the Heat

This started when I basically said trade deadline is weak if the headliners are Powell and Drummond. Do you disagree with that statement? I think Powell is just fine as a role player. I think there is a difference between me saying it’s a weak deadline market relative to the past and ripping Powell. I’m just saying he’s not moving the needle a lot for anyone probably.

I think the most memorable thing for me this deadline will be how many people grossly overrated AG.

He may break out and develop into a much better player in a new system, making me look stupid, but the player he is today, has been over the last 3 years, is just not that good. Below average starter.

Trade deadline is less exciting version of NBA draft, where we squint our eyes and see the best possible version of whatever guy we are hoping our team lands. But here, it's that 8 game stretch to close out last year, stats per 36, pre-injury, fresh start, blah blah blah.

I do think Denver has done really well though. In the case of the trade deadline it is mostly playoff teams looking to add depth or try to patch up weaknesses, not find a superstar.
