No it's not. The Lakers have the clear #1 defense in spite of Gasol missing significant time, LeBron missing a few games, and Davis missing half the season. Moreover, as a Cavs fan who's watched every game I can tell you that Drummond is not a rim protector and it's crazy to suggest he's one.

Teams like Brooklyn and LAC are literally gonna double up the Lakers in 3 point makes and it's impossible to overcome that kind of math 4 out of 7 times in a series.

We've had the #1 defense based primarily on our perimeter play... We've been a layup line inside... Our high block numbers have been from blocks on jump shooters, many of them from THT and his crazy long arms...

Shooting would help but we score enough to win games...
Lowry would be a luxury to have for the right price, but he's not likely to stick too long and we don't want to leverage our ability to pair AD with another star when LeBron retires, so we don't want to give up any asset that might be valuable down range...

#1 defense means #1 defense. Again, Drummond isn't the rim protector you think he is, and come playoffs, Davis, LeBron, and Gasol is good enough rim protection. You can't just ignore shooting entirely and pretend like streaky KCP and washed up Wes are the only shooters you need to compete with teams that are going to be knocking down 15+ threes per game. It makes no sense to say that a #1 defense needs massive improvement but a #17 offense team has more than enough offense. Also, THT isn't even in the top 5 reasons why the Lakers have the #1 defense, and Lowry is a clearly better defender than him so it's a moot point.

As far as your last point, eh, once LeBron is gone, THT and an older Davis isn't that promising regardless. Why already look towards the future when you can actually try to compete right now with a team that has 2 superstars in their primes?
