A 30 year old all star center in a game where big men are less important than ever, except defensively. Unfortunately he's not a great defensive anchor.

I know doing something is exciting, but I don't feel better about the Bulls odds of winning a championship any time soon because of this move. That is the objective, lest we forget.

It should be noted that the Bulls had like an 0.00001% chance of winning the title. When your title chances have to be inspected with a microscope, its really hard to tell if they are going up or down.

Just in general, winning a title in the NBA is ridiculously hard. When a team gets an all time top 10 type player, they tend to win most of them for a while and everyone else is locked out. For me, winning a title is great but I have no desire to support a team that loses intentionally for decades at a time in hopes of landing the next Lebron / MJ.

Ditto. Put a consistent winning product on the floor. Basketball is an entertaining venue. Winning is entertaining. Losing with good promising prospects is tolerable. Losing with trash is not ok.

Right. I didn't want to get into a pedantic discussion about microscopic odds. But my point is that we're not really better positioned to win a ring anytime soon then we were before this move. That to me should be the point of all moves.

Reinsdorf is on record saying that you can make money without competing for a championship, so why not... or something to that effect. I suspect that's what's happening here. Interest in the Bulls has been waning for several years so it's time to make some money by improving the team with a splash move that doesn't build towards a contender in the future.

If we end up with this core and 2 of Lauri, Coby and Patrick Lee Williams pan out, we’re in great shape. Now that mini-rebuilding is off the table, I’m less inclined to trade Lauri.

With the Aminu deal, the Bulls likely won't be below the cap next year. If they cut both Thad and Sato, they would have some amount of money but I doubt it would be enough to sign Sato and Thad level players.

It looks semi-realistic to free up $25-30m of cap space if we don't retain Lauri and we dump one of Thad/Aminu/Sato.

I'm not sure Aminu is dumpable. That said, you are right that Lauri would be taking up pure capspsace. If he is not resigned, the money can be spent elsewhere.

Personally, I think a lot of it is about luck. Maybe Pat Williams takes off. Maybe Zach has a Steph Curry like leap. Maybe some player demands to come to the Bulls due to the balkan table.

A lot of this is highly unlikely but its not like there was any clear road that was better than the one the Bulls just put themselves on. IMO, the worst thing would have been to do nothing and just try to bumslay themselves into the 12th pick. At least that didn't happen.

I agree. I'd rather have picks and cap space than a 30 year old non super star. Fortunate favors the prepared and you never know when a legit prime star becomes available. In that case, a team is usually looking for young cheap assets. I know Boston has been killed for that approach - maintaining flexibility and not... ahm... blowing their load prematurely. I still think its the correct approach, even though it didn't work for them. As you point out, winning a ring involves a lot of luck. You can execute the correct strategy and you are still unlikely to win a ring.

No, the Celtics had multiple opportunity to acquire all star talent to win a ring. Danny Ainge is too prideful on ripping other teams off and not make legit offers for AD. You have to win and be prepared to give up multiple first rounders to acquire all stars. That’s the Lebrob James school of GMing and he has multiple rings for that execution.

The Bulls definitely had a 25% chance at getting Lebron if something, something, something but as you noted before, you really have to worry about "stds" in that arrangement.

One thing for sure at this point is that the Bulls aren't getting completely obliterated with the big man matchups night after night anymore. That's going to be refreshing.

why even twisting the goal post or are u suggesting lavine is comparable to lebron?
im just asking you prefer treadmill than say lebron in 2021 in theory?
im pretty sure AK would have not done it if he had the choice to get lebron. 25% chance for keeping lavine im speechless.

This move will help Lauri-makes him the clear 3rd option and he will have more space. I feel Carter being suck a vacant threat at the top with the ball hurt the whole team. Now, you have to go guard Vuc, and he is a good passer.

This trade was a huge win. I have been posting Vuc to the Bulls ideas for months. We have a clear rotation now

Sato/White
Lavine/Temple
Williams/Brown
Lauri/Thad
Vuc/Theis

deep bench of Aminu, Valentine, Archie, Kornet, Felicio. Plus the 1st, 2nd and 3rd options are clear. Maybe White becomes a real 6th man scorer, and Thad is better off the bench

Man I really like Vuc. Him and Lauri will not work defensively but I think Vuc helps Lauri out offensively big time. It’s a shame Lauri doesn’t have another year of rookie salary to trade in the off-season. I suspect someone will offer a big salary thanks to this second half of season of his. Hopefully we can do a “delayed” sign and trade of Lauri at the deadline next season. I think Vuc will save Lauri from looking like an unwanted contract, but to truly progress, we cannot have both together long term.

This was funny. As if Vuc is a "long term fit" with anyone - he could be retired or playing in Spain in 3-4 years.

Lmfao. Okay, so can we get someone to copy & paste all the unbelievably embarrassing, CRINGE comments from the past couple days? Seriously, can someone take it upon themselves to compile all of them for a big wall of *beyond* embarrassing comments?

This board was perhaps the most cringe-inducing it has ever been over the past two days, that is really saying something significant. Bulls have one of the best FOs in the NBA, duh. Karnisovas, Eversley, & Donovan are going to build the franchise back up into the epicentre of the entire NBA, where they belong

You might be right. Thad has been a beast this year. Maybe that's the starting lineup. As for PG, ideally, we'd have a young talented PG, but Sato's a starter in the league. In fact, I'd argue that Sato has looked worse than he actually is because, before this upgrade, he was working with WC, DG, and other confused guys on offense. If we're not getting a Lonzo or Holiday, we might as well enjoy having a decent starter for the rest of this season long ride. Obviously, I'm not saying we don't need an upgrade at PG in the offseason. We definitely do.
