Also leads me to believe we'll have an interesting off-season, this roster seems very unbalanced.

James Johnson or Otto Porter Jr. seem like candidates. Clark also might be a decent option, I don't know much about him.

Yeah, but we don't need another forward, we could use a guard. Perhaps Gary Harris gets bought out

Should put that in green font, I like Gary but he's on the injury list more than he's on the court, he wouldn't even make my top 5 signing-to-do list

I don't think we can reacquire Gary this year and I doubt he gets bought out with another year remaining. I also wonder how bad his injury is and how much he has left in the tank honestly.

Most of our PGs are combo-guards so they can fill that SG slot.

Well, if Barton moves to SG as he should, you get like 10-15 minutes of Murray there, you have Dozier.. But we do miss some 3pt shooting from our Guards...Murray is only one able to do something there, maybe we could look for Rivers if Ross doesnt get bought out, or doesnt want to come here.. Rivers should be bought out, not sure whats with him this season, didnt watch him at all.
Regarding Harris, I would rather watch him sit on the bench then Clarke, even if Garry is injured, but yeah, we probably cant get him back.

Re: Nuggets Trades
Denver made an excellent trade.
Gordon fits a need and will play well with MPJ. Garry Harris was a shadow of his former self due to injury and the Nuggets needed to move Barton to SG. As a result, we may have a solid defensive unit with MPJ back to guarding power forwards.
The only reason we talk about Garry Clark as being a power forward is because of his time in Houston. Orlando listed him as a small forward. He is 6'6" and should be a backup to Gordon because of his defense first play guarding small forwards. I think Denver may have asked for him in the trade as I can see him as a backup defensive specialist.
Although I hated to see him go, R.J. Hampton had an obvious flaw in his game with his outside shooting. Orlando has to hope that can be corrected.

You can start Morris and Murray in the backcourt that gives you plenty of shooting, if you stagger them correctly with Campazzo than you can keep enough shooting on the court now with Gordon, Green, and MPJ. Campazzo needs to figure out what he is doing with his scoring. he was never a great shooter but I didn't expect it this bad.
The big question is if they can convince Barton to come off the bench? Being the primary backup 2 and 3 he should still get close to 30 minutes a game, and we need his scoring ability off the bench badly.

I am possibly his biggest critic on this board, but I am okay with this deal.
Make no mistake I think that Hampton is going to be the best player in the deal within the next 5 years, but it may take him 4 or 5 years to get there and we don't have that long.
It wasn't that long ago that there were big arguments on this board whether Harris or Murray was going to be the better player. He was arguably our best player on the team just before his injury, but his hip seems to have screwed him. Most of us wouldn't have traded him for Gordon straight up. He helped transform this team, and his defense was huge in the 1st 2 rounds last year, but with his current injury problems he is not someone we can depend on. With his contract he was a negative contract.
A protected 1st round pick at least 4 years away is going to be something we wish we had in 3 or 4 years for some random deal, but we should be contenders at that point.
We had to add an above average defender at forward, MPJ is improving but he is not great. Millsap is basically washed, Green is good in limited minutes, Gordon is the best defender that was traded today. He was arguably the 2nd best player that was traded today. Clark is a great end of the bench defender for the nights guys get in too much foul trouble. They both fill those needs.
Gordon will be our 4th or 5th option on offense, he is not going to get a lot of chances to iso, which is a good thing. The question is if he is going to be okay with it? Requesting a trade is okay, but then insisting on choosing the locations makes me think he is a little of a diva. Especially since he spent his 1st few years in the NBA insisting he only play SF and choose his college based on that. He is an above average starter on an average at best team that never came close to reaching the potential he has. Yet he seems sure that he is a huge star.
IF he comes here and works and reaches his potential, than we got a great deal. We slightly underpaid to get a guy at his level right now though, so it was a good deal and a deal we had to do.

I was curious how you were going to spin it. You constantly bashed any trade suggestions for Gordon and anyone here can easily pull receipts on that. You have to admit though, this deal was definitely good value and less than any of us really expected for the Magic to accept, which I am sure makes it easier to swallow. I think we can acknowledge it, if Gordan can swallow his ego and become a super talented glue guy, he will be successful and this team will have found a good fit.

Spin it? I never saw a trade moving Harris and 1 pick and 1 young guy for Gordon, I saw a lot of overpays for a guy who is realistically not on the star level. It was going to cost a 1st to dump Harris if we were to dump him, so looking at it like that we gave up Hampton for an above average starter.
I will say right now I would have traded for Barnes if he was traded, but the Kings are delusional. Barnes is the better player right now.
I have watched too many guys who thought they were big stars that never could accept what they really are. Gordon is a 4th option on a 3 star team, he has to focus on what he does well, and only do that. If he focuses on defense, moving without the ball for easy baskets at the rim, and spot up shooting he will be a great addition, but I don't think he will but am hopeful. I damn sure wouldn't have overpaid for the chance to find out though.
We gave up a guy that was a late 1st round pick. Nobody that follows the NBA would turn down trading a late 1st round pick for a young quality starter. How could anybody not like that?

and your final sentence is exactly why I wasn't a fan of Gordan - "if Gordan can swallow his ego" --- he is going to have to adapt - he's been an ISO player, creating his own plays and having plays called for him to score
In Denver, most of the plays start with Jokic having the ball and many of them begin with Murray receiving a hand off - Porter is another option that will probably be ahead of Gordan --- all of that means Gordan isn't going to get many plays called for him (this appears to be why Grant left)

Grant didn't deserve to have any plays called for him, he's not the good offensive player. I dont care about his ppg averages , his shooting percentages are poor , team is not successful, anyone can score a lot on the bad teams, when you have unlimited freedom to shoot. Gordon is the same type of the player on the offense , he should be a garbage man, if he can defend as the "experts" claim, then that should be his role , and score easy points off the assists, that should be his role .

Well, I totally disagree with you regarding Grant, problem was Malone disregarded any offensive production he could've added, realistically forcing us into the situation where we needed to make this trade. I think Gordon is who he is, he'll have to adapt to this team but Malone shouldn't overlook any potential because he is being pigeon-holed into one role, same thing he did with Grant.
Interestingly enough, we no longer have a Big THREE, we have a Core FOUR, which means we have FOUR options to lead this team, how many teams can say that ? While I believe Jokic will always be the focus and leader of this team. we can now throw off how other teams try to scheme against us by changing the focus based upon matchups much like they do in football. Doubt Malone is smart enough to do it but seems that would be an approach we could utilize given time to develop.
