It's 7am in Australia I just woke up my eyes were still half shut and then I saw all the trade news and my eyes opened incredibly wide!
Holy s**t.... AK... Woah...
I honestly don't know what to say.
This kind of Trade is straight out of our very own trade thread that gets laughed at as not possible...

Yes he was and that is the evidence that First Round Picks don't mean much. One in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. Poor Orlando.

Regarding the poor drafting, that should be taken care of with AK.
There is more to improving the team than GarPax garbage way of standing pat, hoping for lottery balls, and drafting busts.
Lastly, players nowadays are dictating destinations as FAs. Focus on winning and building a winning culture. Cont to have some projects for developmental reasons. Cont to draft players that are fit into our winning culture. Excellent strong start by AK. Literally two middle first rounders for an All Star center.
A 30 year old all star center in a game where big men are less important than ever, except defensively. Unfortunately he's not a great defensive anchor.
I know doing something is exciting, but I don't feel better about the Bulls odds of winning a championship any time soon because of this move. That is the objective, lest we forget.
Are they really less important? The 2nd best player on the two finals teams was a guy playing center in the closing minutes with Bam and AD. Joker and Embid are in the MVP discussion. Vuc gives us a legit allstar where we were playing people who were bench players at best. Everyone was killing us in the paint. And he's on a affordable deal.
Is this the star I wanted? Probably not. But he's still a legit all star and we weren't getting anyone better. In addition to not having the tools to get someone better, the cost was really low. Porter, WC, 2 1sts that will be in the 20's is a pretty low price to trade for a star. I would be surprised if he couldn't be flipped for more if it doesn't work out.

Heckuva move. The Anti-GarPax in action.
We went from having the absolute worst center rotation in the league (we were so bad that we were starting a 6'8" SF at C). We had three "centers" who really couldn't\shouldn't see the floor (Gafford, Kornet and Felicio). The other was so bad (Carter Jr.) that he got benched in favor of the 6'8" SF.
Now we have, arguably, the third best center in the NBA behind Jokic and Embid and to boot we have a legit backup C in Theis. Sure we still have a hole at PG, but Sato is just fine in the short term. Vucevic gives us a legit, consistent 20\10 player where you can depend on his production nightly. We've been sorely missing that legit second option who is a consistent threat as a scorer. In just a few hours, AK has remade the C position from one of extreme weakness into one of strength. Sure we still need competent PG play, but one step at a time.
As for Lauri - I think he actually will thrive with Vuc\Lavine. He can stick to his strengths. Spot up shooting and cuts to the basket. He now becomes the third option and I think he'll do well there. We can have two legit 20ppg scores in Lavine and Vuc with another legit 15 - 18ppg from Lauri. The other guys get their within the scope of the offense.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this team in action. Totally different feel.

The thing is Markkanen absolutely stinks. Heck, no one would be surprised to see him return to Eu before Vooch does lol. No teams are really interested in him either, which is telling. He’s irrelevant, just some boring euro stretch 4 who looks like a mega star in EL, but can’t keep up with the NBA pace to save his life

Getting Vucevic gives us a legit 1-2 punch with LaVine and Nikola. Coby can help with microwave scoring off the bench and Lauri can get comfortable as a clear 3rd option.

Just had this realisation also, Lauri doesn't have to have the pressure of being the number 2 option anymore.MrFortune3 wrote:Getting Vucevic gives us a legit 1-2 punch with LaVine and Nikola. Coby can help with microwave scoring off the bench and Lauri can get comfortable as a clear 3rd option.
I really think he's been struggling with the pressure of that for a while now

Re: Woj: Vucevic/Aminu for Carter Jr/Porter/ 2 1sts
The stench of the GarPax regime is really starting to disappear. I think we all were a little confused by the lack of change in the roster to start the season, but in less than a year, AK added a legitimate culture-changing coach and a guy who has a shot of going down as the best center in Chicago Bulls history.
We all underwent around 20 years of terrible management, but I don't know if it's collectively hit the board of what just happened. We added a 25 and 12 All-Star. After all those years of failed trade rumors (Gasol, Kobe, Amar'e, Melo, etc.) we finally traded for someone who pushes the needle. We finally did a trade that wasn't about future considerations or flexibility. This was simply about making us better. In less than one year, AK pulled off the type of trade that John Paxson couldn't in 17 years.
Zach and Vuc should be able to get to the playoffs, and if we play well and get some notice we're going to be a prime destination for a "third star" who is looking to land in a desirable situation. Maybe that guy is Kawhi Leonard if things with LAC go sour.
The only shame of the deadline is that we didn't convert Felicio into anything. You have to assume that we'll cut him and try and add someone like Teague to the roster.

Re: Woj: Vucevic/Aminu for Carter Jr/Porter/ 2 1sts
Re: Vucevic I'm excited to get him and realize we are getting an all-star not necessarily a super star but since I don't watch Orlando a ton I wanted to see where he fits in several categories amongst the league leaders and some of the results surprised me. Just wanted to get some feedback from the board about what conclusions I should take from some of theses:
Offensive Win Shares - 2.4 (44th in the NBA)
Defensive Win Shares - 2.0 (14th in the NBA - legit shocked!)
Offensive Rating - 113 (203rd in the NBA)
WS/48 - .143 (49th)
VORP - 2.9 (8th!)
BPM - 5.6 (11th)
PER - 23.6 (15th)
Weird how some of these ratings are much lower than I expected, some are higher, while a few fit roughly where I expected them to be, a top 15-20 player in the NBA. A lot of these things are measuring similar things but the output varies so wildly! I always thought he was a high volume scorer with good rebounding but iffy defense.

Fans bringing up Vucevic age. He's 30, not 40. Skilled bigs usually last until their mid thirties. We all watched a 34/35 year old Pau Gasol make back-to-back All Star appearances in Chicago, I expect Vuc to do the same.

This is as close to the best type of trade you could have asked for as a Bulls fan. We either needed to get really lucky in the draft, but stinking it up season after season, after season, after season. Or stink it up season after season after season, and hope that a star player wants to sign with the team. Or make an aggressive trade by essentially giving up two players we were never going to keep, for a legitimate All-Star calibre player by giving up two mid-to-late first round picks.
Huge fan of this trade as far as value goes.

Great trade!!! And the good thing about Vuc is with his style that doesn't rely on athleticism, he can still be an all star level player for 5-6 years

Yeah I mean why give up picks. Just tell Orlando no! It's like people don't understand how trades work. They had an asking price, we had a desire and to fulfill that desire of improving the team in a meaningful way there is a cost. The other important factor a winning Vet does more to a culture change than 2 picks which likely will never be as good as Vuc is now, won't add to a to a winning culture. We went and HELPED our star, a perception that this franchise has not done well in a long time. The trade itself regardless of outcome is a huge optics win and a culture change. I'm pleased.

Absolutely - this is one of the best trades we've made as a franchise, if not the best. Trading for an All-Star doesn't always happen, unless said All-Star is openly demanding a trade, and we got him by only really giving up two assets in my opinion, the two first round picks. And if Billy can integrate Nikola into the system early, we are talking about late lottery or out of the lottery picks.
I really can't think of a negative as far as this deal goes, besides his age, and even then, he isn't exactly a player who relies heavily on his athletic ability either and we are still talking about someone who still has about 4-5 years of his prime left in him provided he stays healthy.
Why so serious?

Also beyond Markannen, I think Vuc will help out Coby. Similar to how role players get fat contracts when playing on contenders, I see Vuc raising some young guys’ trade value a good deal. We went from a team with no clear path to one that might have found a lane.
