Thank you WeHam
I may be down on the return, but truth be told, I don't know what the other offers were. I'm not thrilled about the prospects that we're bringing in but maybe they'll impress. We'll see.
With that said, thank you for choosing the right lane. Rebuilding.
Now go and get Jalen Green.

Re: Thank you WeHam
Yup
I was hoping for more but we got fair value and these are the trades you get for non superstars, but either way I'm just thrilled that we are going full rebuild. I've been saying it for years (as have many here) that this team as constructed was never going anywhere and the only way to get ahead would be a rebuild
I'm not sure how I feel about them doing the rebuilding but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt
Now yes, go get us jalen green (unless we have a shot at cade, then get cade! Even if we have to trade up, GET CADE!)

Let's say that Carter starts and Bamba is a back-up, then this is the core now:
Fultz/Anthony
xxx/Ross/Hampton
Isaac
xxx/Okeke
Carter/Bamba
I also agree that Green is the Magic's target. Unless Cunningham or Mobley slides, or lotto-magic happens.
Clearly the Magic need to draft a starting-quality SG or starting-quality PF. Then sign a ace FA at the other slot.
That plan would be for being competent in the 2022/23 season.

Yep, I'm happy we got off the treadmill too. But in order to judge a rebuild you do eventually have to build something worthwhile. Today was just the first big step.

Ok, no offense and I’m not ripping anyone for starting this, but this WeHam love thread is just gross. The fact is it took Weltman and Hammond 4 years to realize they needed to tear down what was here, and they probably only did in an effort to save their jobs. I have no faith in them whatsoever to drum up interest from free agents or to draft any real prospects that won’t be injury prone. We need new people at the top running this ship.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I don’t have much faith in them either but honestly I don’t really have an issue with the timing of tearing it down. Had they done this upon arrival we’d be bringing up our young roster into an association where stars at the peak of their game are all conspiring to play together on a handful of teams. It’s a garbage era as a small market team, tbh. Championships don’t even mean as much as they once did (for those handful of teams anyway). My hope is that either there are some league changes soon or the next generation of stars see value in not ring chasing in that way. By the time our roster has developed and matured, today’s stars will be starting their age out and so will the ring-chasing-superteam mindset. That’s my hope, anyway.

Good thread, needed. The team needed change, change has happened, sweeping change. We got what we wanted.

I'm glad they picked a lane, but I can't in good conscience go so far as to thank these jerks for doing what they should have done a year or more ago.

It's definitely not a love thread. If you know my history here, I've been bashing them before they even started. I followed the bucks board for years and knew what we were getting in Hammond.
They should have done this years ago.
Still, they finally picked the right lane to travel. They didn't have to. So, for that, I thank them. Nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Thank you WeHam
We would have gotten half the value for Vucevic last year. I’m not mad. Especially looking at last years draft class.

While true, they almost assuredly would have gotten more value out of Gordon and Fournier both had they unloaded them a year earlier.

And we would have been in the running for Edwards or Ball last draft.... and still suck this year with a shot at Cade or Mobley.
Fultz
Edwards
Cade
JI
Bamba
WITH cap room??? No doubt we would be in better shape if this was done sooner

Exactly. Although picking a lane makes it sound like it was a thought out, well planned trip...as opposed to them driving 100mph down a road and swerving at the exit at the absolute last second to avoid a colassal car crash over the not so distant cliff called "you're fired"

I get that, and i agree, this should of been done last year or the year before, but better late than never.
Most people refuse to admit they are wrong and continue on that path until its too late
Atleast Weham realized they were wrong and took action to fix that.

I have a hard time with this based on Weltman's comments this morning.
I do not believe that Weltman and the rest of the front office feels like they were wrong at all. I think they just think they got incredibly unlucky with injuries.
It's pretty clear that without injuries (which ultimately led to trade requests), they weren't going to do this.

Well we could say the same right now?
We could suck this year and get Cade\mobley\green and be i n the running for Chet\Hardy\baldwin next year and have cap space
Again, better late than never

Sure, thats probably true, they probably never PLANNED on doing this, but atleast they were able to deviate from their plan and set on a new path, we all know there are a ton of GMs who would of stuck with the original plan, kept vuc and probably AG and added them to JI\Fultz\top 5 pick and continued on the same path and just said it was an unlucky year.
Ive been one of the most critical of the Weham FO from the start, but this isnt a move ill critize them for

I agree on Fournier, but probably not on Gordon. Just think Hampton cost Denver their pick and the Magic had Hampton 1B after Cole. So if we got their pick in that draft and another 1st (which we got yesterday), then that's 2 1sts for Gordon. Plus, we may not have gotten Harris who's stock is down because he's hurt. Maybe they give us Milsap who's washed up and has zero trade value. I'm interested in seeing how Harris fits with us. Maybe we resign him, but at least he has more trade value than Milsap and maybe we even flip him like we did with Fournier. We'll just have to see.
Now if someone told me that we tried to get Jaden McDaniels and Minny was refusing, but that we could've gotten Minny's pick last year if we offered Gordon, then that would be upsetting... but then again, folks here would be cringing at the fact that we only got pick 26 and a future protected 1st for Gordon. lol. JM simply has outplayed his draft value already... lucky for MIN.

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely thrilled that they blew it up.
But how much Weltman talked out of both sides of his neck today was just super noticeable.
He insisted that he thought this team could compete for homecourt this season and the only reason they didn't is because of injuries.
If that is what he truly believed, then why would he get rid of everyone?
Why wouldn't he have just tanked the rest of *this* season, resigned Evan and Birch and added a Cade Cunningham or Jalen Green or Jalen Suggs out of the top 5 into the mix?
G Fultz, Anthony
G: Fournier, Green
F: Gordon, Ross
F: Isaac, Okeke
C: Vucevic, Birch
^ If Weltman thought that rotation minus Jalen Green and Jonathan Isaac could compete for homecourt THIS year, then certainly he would have thought they could compete for homecourt and maybe even more next year.
If it was strictly a luxury tax issue, then literally all he would have have to do is attach some 2nds to Bamba and MCW and punt them into someone's cap space. Not that difficult to do if you really are motivated to do it.
Unless!
Weltman was just lying to cover his obviously poor roster management and long-term planning.
