Ariza is a good defender that made a mistake, plus Butler MIA again ( I truly think he could’ve played) had liable defenders closing and collapsing the D forcing Bam to help and Portland feasting with put backs off rebounds.

Then why not challenge it lmao.

He needs to challenge more foul calls I agree ( Spo is like one programmed robot), but he would have lost this challenge. However there were so many non calls during Portland’s fake comeback that the final call should have never happened as a way to keep it neutral. Miami got fked by the refs during the final stretch.

Turns out we couldn't challenge the call unfortunately. We need to call a timeout to challenge because we lose it if the challenge is unsuccessful and we had no timeouts left.

What this loss proves is that you can’t play Duncan in 4th quarters. Bad fouls, blown defensive assignments. The usual with him

Let’s take him for what he is. A good shooter who provides spacing for your offense for the first 3 quarters. He shouldn’t see any meaningful 4th quarter play going forward unless Heat are in a situation they are desperate for threes & use him as an offensive sub only

Luckily all that said we likely don’t have to worry about playing him in 4th quarters w/ all the newly acquired pieces. I hope Spo has the balls to keep him benched

I saw how every blazer got passed duncan last night time after time. And then had 2nd chance opportunity because he wasnt strong enough to body for a rebound.

looking back on the game our problem is still pace.
We lost this game even though we shot better 56% v 47.8%
47% from 3 v 43%
92% from the line v 89.5%
34 assists v 24
relatively even rebound and turnover numbers yet they had 92 attempts to our 84.
Heat sped it up towards the end but too late. We got young athletic guys we should be running other teams out of the gym.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

Something stylistic has changed from last year when we were grouving. Our defensive tenacity isnt there anymore, and we cant seem to hide our bad defenders this year or are teams recognizing our weakness a bit better and taking full advantage.

I wasn't able to watch the whole game, but when I was watching Ariza was tasked with guarding Dame. I get he didn't do a perfect job and fouled him at the end, but do we really have posters ready to give up on Ariza because he couldn't completely shut down Dame after not playing for the past year? Is the expectation that he should be able to? Because that is very misguided IMO.

My assumption is that once he hits a few more 3s people will change their tune.

Powell's defense consistently frustrates Raptors fans. He is an average to below average defender.

Oladipo is a REAL 2-way player with potential to be a defensive difference maker. Lowry is a dawg

Not absolving Bam from blame. But u can't box out AND cover for other players defensive mistakes.

I pray we get Aldridge. I know he's been a bad rebounder this year and has never been very good at it. But man do we need some size.

So far I haven’t liked Ariza, doesn’t move on offense. He has zero vision, misses wide open players. Good but too aggressive one and one defense, but plays no help or team defense. We also lost every game since he joined the Heat. He needs a very limited role, in my opinion.

From my perspective we can't count on him to be anything but a complement. I think that's obvious. But that inherently means he needs to play off stars and operate within the systems. It's not shocking that he wouldn't be up to speed on the offensive and defensive team systems yet. It's not like he hasn't done so in his prior stops.

I've got patience.
