Re: 2021 49ers offseason
Great. Let a division rival overpay for a guy who is a sound player, but far from a difference maker. We can collect on the comp pick, and it will prevent them from adding a better player. Granted he's costing less per year than Ebukam (though that deal reads like a one-year prove-it deal with minimal guaranteed money in year two).
I would have liked to bring Hyder back, but he's not as good as his sack numbers were this past year, and I'm even less concerned about him in Seattle, where they can't seem to develop a pass rush to save their lives.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
Assuming the Willis contract is close to the minimum, it's a decent move. Between him and Ebukam, we have two edge rushers with elite physical tools who have underperformed somewhat over their careers, but still have plenty of upside. Let's hope Kocurek is ready to rock with these guys and a full offseason.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
PFF reporting this is more like a two-year deal for $6.5 million. In that case, I'd probably rather have that deal than the Ebukam one.

Wonder if Kyle is wanting to draft a QB to back up or if he likes what little Rosen has shown. I wouldn't mind Trask in the 2nd round, he hasn't been talked about much

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
This unique offseason is allowing the Niners to basically have a mulligan on the 2020 season by bringing back almost every guy they want to. Add in what will hopefully be a strong draft, and this team should be right back in the playoff and super bowl mix, even assuming we stick with Garoppolo at QB.
Given that we aren't likely to net much in the way of comp picks (might be due one or two right now), I wouldn't mind seeing the team get a little more aggressive with mid-tier guys from outside the organization. There are still a number of decent CBs out there, and some more skill players on offense. I might look to take something of a flier on guys like Duke Johnson (hate the thought of spending any money at RB at all, but Johnson is an elite receiving RB and could be very good in our system; and he should be relatively cheap) and Trey Burton, for instance. Actually, both those guys were released and wouldn't factor into the comp pick formula anyway. Players like that, talented guys who have found themselves in systems or schemes that aren't a great fit, might jump at the chance to join Shanahan's offense, which can put them in a position to succeed and bolster their draft stock for next year.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
I'd like to hear more about Bosa's rehab. Want to hear he looks as good as ever.
Maybe too early or they haven't had enough OTAs?
I think they need more than just bring back the roster from 2 years ago. Cards have made waves and obviously Rams think they've got the final piece they needed with Stafford.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
I agree we can't just run back the squad from two years ago. That said, if healthy-ish, this team should be better. Aiyuk is an addition and should be markedly better than Sanders this year, Trent Williams is an upgrade over Staley, and Verrett is better than anyone we had at CB that year, especially late in the year. A number of key players should be improved, including Warner, Samuel, and Greenlaw Kinlaw (granted still a major step down from Buckner). I think we're better at RB. I also think our depth will be better overall.
There is some concern that a few players are on the decline, like K'Waun Williams, possibly Verrett, certainly Mack (though he's probably still an upgrade over Garland), but on the whole, the team isn't relying heavily on older players.
The obvious weak link is Garoppolo, but short of trading for Watson, I think we're stuck with him. Even if we make an aggressive move for one of the top four rookies, that guy still probably won't be ready to take a team to the super bowl. I have my doubts about Rosen ever rebounding, much less having the opportunity to do so this year while Garoppolo stays healthy. But outside of QB (granted a huge if), the roster has to be one of the most complete in the league.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
Seems like we're linked to the current QB of any team expected to draft one of the top QBs. It's possible, but Shanahan hasn't seemed particularly inclined to make an aggressive move for a passer to date.
I'm gonna say again that I'm really irritated we didn't pick up Rosen at the start of last season rather than the end. He was clearly a superior developmental prospect to Beathard - even if his floor is basically hard-packed dirt (which, after all, is also Beathard's). It would have been nice to have a clearer idea of what he had to offer. Though word is that Rosen rejected several offers to come off the Bucs' practice squad, presumably as he saw an opportunity to be Brady's successor.

I’m personally glad K’Waun Williams is back.. sure we lost to them in the Super Bowl but this offseason we’re beating the Chiefs lol.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
Zach Kerr is such an underrated signing, true NT who is a good athlete for his size.
I think it's 12-13 roster spots open now? Basically in draft mode now, can probably include the QB position. Unless they sign or trade for somebody, I don't know. Feels like they are taking a QB within the first 3 rounds.

Kerr ran a 1.72 10-yard split back in 2014. Kinda so-so time....except that he weighed 326 pounds at the time! That's outstanding for a guy that size to have that kind of burst. Last year in a part-time role for the Pats, he managed 13 QB pressures, 6 QB knockdowns and 2 sacks. Having a big NT that can wreak havoc straight up the middle on passing plays should only make it easier on the other D-linemen. IF, and it's a very big IF, Bosa and Ford can come back healthy then our defensive line could be elite again.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
I knew Shanahan would fall in love with Fields.
He's a QB that can execute the gameplan at an elite level, but off-script he's very questionable.

Re: 2021 49ers offseason
THIS WAS WAYYY TOO EXPENSIVE.
I'm happy we are moving up for a QB, but 3 1sts and a 3rd?

Technically it is 2 firsts and a 3rd. The third was a comp pick because of Saleh, and in reality the 2022/2023 picks should be in the 20s or hopefully last.
I wonder if we are trading Jimmy G now and just riding with Fields or Wilson

That is alot to give up. It is a risk. They better not screw this pick up. They could still keep Jimmy G this year rather than roll with a rookie but it must be QB and Jimmy Gs time is limted
