wow, has bill ever spent this much in FA in an offseason? so much for him heading off meekly into the sunset lol.
don't think we're in the championship category but at least we're not conceding the AFC east anymore.

No, the 130 + mils Dolla Bill spent was the 2nd most ever in an NFL offseason.

Really Bob Kraft should get plenty of credit here... He has to pay out that 170 million or whatever the figure ends up being bonus money out front in the form of placing it in escrow so with the time value of money even if his overall spending on players in dollar terms is the same over the next 4 years, the fact that he is putting the money out right now costs him money that if he wanted could go to his bottom line.

Kraft has to know this and that is why he is basically stating he isn't treating the Patriot as a real business but is in the business of trying to win.

If you were trying to maximize profit while not even upsetting the fans, you just spend up to the cap each year but you limit the signing bonuses especially on long term contracts. If you do that, you make more money all other things being equal.

A better media should report on this better if my common sense finance 101 analysis is correct. Now obviously the Patriots themselves would say that spending huge money via free agency most years is usually not the way to go. Ideally, you draft so well that you want to resign some of your own FAs a year early when the team has leverage to negotiate better since the players are very fearful of injury in football. But the pandemic combined with the declining salary cap did create opportunities that are normally not there.

Of course it's a good signing, but he deserves more money than that relative to the money we have been spending elsewhere.

Pats brought back Guy too. I know there will be some unexpected cuts and some surprise retirements during camp, but this is the deepest defense I’ve ever seen the patriots have. It’s legit stacked at most positions. Let’s hope it works out.

Meh, looks more and more like the draft is going to work against us, QB wise.

Also, some of the combine results were eye popping. Micah Parsons running a sub 4.4 40 at 6’3 250+ is unbelievable. What a freak of nature.

Geez you are slipping. Trading with the Dolphins, 49ers moved all the way up to 3 instead of 4.... It looks like 49ers are taking Fields and if he is taken, they must be happy with Zach Wilson as well. I was like 99% confident the Niners were moving up but just didn't know the timing of it and what pick they would target.

Dolphins moved down to 12 but then made another trade and are now picking 6.

I see this as good news for the Patriots since I am not completely sold on Tua but time will tell for him. He will now have a better chance to show what he can do. Dolphins got a good return in the form of picks at least for just moving down 3 spots after the double trade.

It will be interesting to see if Niners do trade Jimmy G to the Patriots. Do the Patriots really value Jimmy G higher than a rookie QB such as Mac Jones when you take into account the salary difference?

So, Jimmy G is gone from the Niners for sure. Now just a question of the timing and whether or not, he plays one year to ease the transition of Fields or Wilson.

Jimmy Hot Tub seems like a big risk at this point. I get that none of his injuries have been career-threatening but at what point do you say that a guy is just made of glass. Even when he was here he couldn't stay on the field.

Personally, I have never bought the Jimmy hype. Tony Romo caliber QB, who like Romo, probably doesn't get himself a ring.

Would rather have Marcus Mariota or Alex Smith, personally.

But we heard in the past that BB was disappointed to see Jimmy traded b/c he felt he could win a ring with Jimmy at the helm. We heard murmurs that our staff felt we could insert any upper tier QB (i.e. Cam) into our offense, and win a ring.

I feel like BB is trying to prove a point this coming season.
