Merrill is tougher and more intuitive on D than I thought. Great development and good timing for him to come on.

Why?

If he keeps shooting 75% he can keep earning minutes, but he was completely lost defensively anytime he was asked to do more than sort of try to guard the guy in front of him.

don't forget diakite. I really feel like he's got something special too.

Diatke probably isn't ready for meaningful minutes right now. Merrill I would trust being a regular rotation player right now.

maybe not pressure minutes, but I think a guy like diakite could've shaken things up energy and hustle wise when we were floundering. he can make an impact in those type of situations, but Bud is not bright enough to see it

Nothing forced Merrill out there tonight, Bud did that voluntarily. No coaches like playing rooks, but Bud loves Merrill.

The annoying thing will be that Forbes will continue to get a little run too for a few more weaks, ever though he should be banished forever.

Merrill was good but let's not forget he'll be 25 in a month. You cannot expect much better stuff.

Giannis when Diatke gave Wagner that shoulder to the face: I always wanted to do that.

One guy has a 42" inch vertical and another was one point away from making the finals in last year's dunk contest, yet Merrill now has a significantly higher percentage of successful dunks on drives where a good finisher should be able to dunk than either of them.

If Bud spent half the season "experimenting" (that's the excuse for the record we're officially using, right?) then experiment some more and get the three kids minutes from now until the end of the season.

I don't think Diakite is quite ready, but he's a very exciting prospect. He will eventually help this team so many ways.

Okay, what did he do well on defense? I want your true and honest evaluation.

You think Forbes is better on D?

Yeah it seems like he knows his job is on the line and he can't trust certain guys that he hasn't seen play a lot of NBA basketball.

Bud seems very finicky with rookies/young players going back to his Atlanta days.

Merril was great . The problem is that i think Bud will start using him together with forbes and we will be black hole in defence.
Only one of these 2 can be on court, never in same line up.

I turned the channel early when Giannis watched the rebound hit the floor and Boston picked it up and drained a 3. He just didn't seem right tonight.

That issue never stopped Thon from getting better each year.

It was his positioning, hands and strong base. Did you see that sequence where Forbes got destroyed under by Smart (I think it was Smart) and the next time down they switched Merrill on him?

Bet pretty heavily on a Giannis bounce-back spot, now the only things bouncing are my checks. Thanks for that, Bud.

Yes. Forbes doesn't find the wrong guy to guard in transition. He stays in front of his man and when they switch he finds the open man well.

His struggles on defense are not because he doesn't know what to do, it's because he's not physically gifted. He's scrawny and he struggles when guys lay wood on him.
