Seems like a win for both sides. Hartenstein has not been very good and Denver desperately needed some rim protection.
This is just a classic low-key Nuggets deadline trade after being in some flashy rumors for the last couple weeks. Feels like they do this every year. We’ll see if they’re done.

Re: [Shams] Mcgee to Denver
Giving this an A for Cleveland, and a D+ for Denver.
Cleveland cashed out and got solid value, Denver decided to make up for Jokic's lack of blocks by paying 4m to a guy who will block shots and do nothing else when Jokic isn't playing. Which, they needed a better backup center than Hartenstein, but I think i would have played Milsap at backup center or tossed in more 2nds and gotten Theis. Or tried for Noel. Or gotten Bradley?
I just see McGee as pretty low impact, and if the goal is to strengthen backup center in the playoffs, it is still a touch weak. Taking on 2.6m in salary and spending 2 2nds should do better than this, and don't actually trust McGee. If you do, I understand why this could be closer to a win win, but it isn't there at all for me.

Denver isn't looking for much from McGee. With Jokic playing 36 mpg and Malone liking small ball ... it's a minor move that will hopefully only be significant in about one game per series.

Didn't the Nuggs pay Philly 2 #1's a few years ago to take McGee and his contract?

Re: [Shams] Mcgee to Denver
In the beginning of the season when the Cavs were good and he was coming off the bench behind Drummond he showed off the skill set of a savvy vet the can pass out of low post and even take a couple effective shots a half outside of the paint that you never saw coming. But yeah after the Cavs 10 game skid with injuries he started playing like ge wasn't really engaged making dumb passes in transition jacking up an early shot clock 3 etc.
imo this trade was basically fair for both sides if Javale doesn't have to be more than a playoff bubble back up
