Everyone that is bitching about potential getting Drummond are going to turn around and bitch that all the Celtics have is Thompson and Wagner for the center position when RW3 gets injured like he always does.
There is about a 3% chance that RW3 stays healthy the remaining part of the season and the playoffs. The Celtics know this. Everyone knows this.
Celtics need someone else be it Drummond, KO, Dieng etc.

Not sure why people are complaining about 14 rpg. I'm sure he knows his roll isn't to be the scorer.

Fun fact, Rob is 2nd on the team behind Tatum in b-ball index’s LEBRON stat, 35th overall. Dude is making a pretty big impact on the court.
Hate the name of the stat, but it seems to by by far the best of the available free impact stats.

Maybe they're just trying to depress Rob's contract extension value this fall by signing Drummond.
Okay not really. But that contract is a thing we need to think about.

There’s a difference between signing a depth guy and a guy like Drummond who’s going to demand playing time and the ball if he comes here. I’d much rather Dieng or OPJ. Drummond can pound sand

I’ve been pounding the table for this kid to start all year. The worst thing we can do is botch it now by bringing in a guy like Drummond to push RW3 back to the bench. Let the kid start and grow in the starting 5. Enough is enough

I agree completely. Celtics need someone because RW3 is a walking injury waiting to happen

Signing Andre Drummond and playing him over Rob would be on brand for this **** clown show season.

Dieng would be a much better backup to RW. Or we could do nothing. We have 3 centers right now. 4 if you count Kornet

Ya that's the fear. Or we'll get like thompson/drummond line ups or some bull. I'm honestly very "meh" on this whole thing. Otto porter would be WAY more useful. But it sounds like he may not be bought out.
You know on second thought I'd rather not even give Steven's the choice, he has a thing about playing bad vets over better young guys. I hope he goes to LA.

It's certainly possible it's a rental.
I mean you want to pay Foyrnier 4/80 or maybe even more for his age 29-32 years? That's probably what it takes if Bogdanovic just got 4/72 as a RFA after never averaging above 15ppg.
Then there are tax issues.

Yeah I’m fine with it, I’m guessing it’ll be between 4/72 and 4/80.
Obviously if a team comes in and blows him away with an insane offer, it’ll be just a rental. But I’m very confident that Danny and Fournier’s agent have an understanding.

So here's what I'll say, I dont hate it either as long as it doesnt exceed 4/80. I actually think theres a chance it goes higher, but who knows.
But I think theres functionally zero chance all three of kemba, smart and fournier are on the team to start next year. The c's are right at the luxury tax line with only 11 guys + thier draft pick next year. That's before signing fournier which would then put you 20 million into the tax. That's a tax level this ownership has never paid, and that's for a team that may not get past the 2nd or even first round this year.
So either they are paying to dump Kemba's contract, or they are trading smarts 14.3 million for an asset and using that money to resign fournier.

I think you can add TT to that list. As an expiring 10 mil that maybe easier to dump

Kemba 100000% needs to go if this team is going to continue adding depth

Sure. But even if you replace that spot with a minimum level center you are saving 8 million dollars which is a chunk but still leaves you pretty far in the tax. Then you have the issue that you have only rob and some minimum level guys at center which is problematic given rob's injury issues so even then you maybe have to use the Mini MLE or one of you TPEs to bring in like a 5 million a year center. So it's hard to squeeze too much savings out of thompson, plus you have to pay pick(s) to dump him.
Also my guess is its smart or kemba being moved because it opens up guard minutes for your two recent lottery picks.
The dream is probably convince some team that misses big time free agents to take a chance on kemba for 2/75 and hopefully give up no more than 1 st round pick to do it. That may be a tough sell, but then you'd create a 36 million dollar tpe and resign fournier to replace the kemba production.
