This is a dying argument but people need to pay attention to how hard this guy is working and how his game is improving. He quite literally rebuilt his shot from scratch.

Basically no one does that once they’ve reached the bigs. He’s going to keep getting better and better.

He’s only 23 as well. 4-5 years from his best years. I’d give him the max. People give up on young guys too quickly in this era even if they have clear talent - and of course a lot of people hate on the Ball family, which I think is soooo 2017.

If the Bulls plan on being a developmental team he might be the right guy. Seems AK knows who he wants to take a shot on and who he doesn’t Gaff,WCJ,Hutch.

How long until the deadline? I know it's 3pm in America but not sure what time zone to look at for Australia?

ZOMG wrote:IMO this is the end of the Lonzo narrative. With an All Star interior hub like Vuc coming in, AK won't give $20 million per year to a glorified 3&D guard like Lonzo.

These guys can be found MUCH cheaper.

$20M doesn't seem that overpaid for what Lonzo is reputed to bring. Gary Harris makes $20M and shoots 3s at 32% and was a starter for a contending team. Bogdan makes $18M, shoots 34% from 3, isn't a defender, averages 10 ppg.

And you always have to overpay RFAs to some degree, that's the flipside of not having to use a draft pick on a fairly young player.

If Lonzo gets too pricey/complicated, another name to watch out for in free agency is Devonte Graham. He'll be RFA, but with Ball as their starting PG, MJ probably won't wanna match big money to keep Graham to come off the bench. 10-15M per will probably do it.

It would be a huge mistake to spend a lot of money filling the starting lineup PG "vacuum". As I said earlier, we need a guy there who's happy playing off the ball for the most part. A stabilizing influence, yes, but not a ball-pounder or someone who demands 18 shots per game. There aren't enough basketballs.

I'd be happy with a cheap, steady vet who doesn't turn the ball over and can get it to Vuc in the middle.

Yes 100%

When you consider the role Sato and Thad have played to this point in regards to play making, replacing that with Vuc and a even a slight upgrade to Sato and we are covered.

I'm happy with Sato at the moment to serve as a prototype for what we would need.

More evaluation...

Trust me, Ball will be signing an offer sheet this summer unless the Pels are ready to pay him everything he wants. It’s got nothing to do with what he says to the boss.

My concerns with Graham is his lack of shooting .372 this season and .382 last season :noway:

That's mainly because he's pretty much a 3 point specialist. 8 of his 11 FGA per game are 3s. 68% of his shots this season are 3s. He's shooting a yikes worthy 38% on at the rim attempts, though to be fair those make up a very small portion of his shots.

Having said that, he's best suited as a bench gunner, not a starting PG. We already have that role filled with Coby, who is still under cheap team control for two more years, as opposed to Graham who will likely command $10M+. Hard pass from me.

KC on the podcast said S&T for lonzo is very much alive

Capologists, can someone design a sign & trade with Lauri (+ other stuff) for Lonzo this summer that works with base year compensation rules? I believe the implication is that this is possible but difficult. Or, if not this, can someone imagine a sign and trade for Lonzo that the Pelicans would accept that doesn’t involve our 2026 1st rounder?

If AK is ready to part with signifcant assets for the right to pay Lonzo Ball $20 million dollars per year, I'll be very disappointed.

Devonte Graham is a nice plan B to Ball.

Lonzo Ball is out now with a hip flexor injury. Hard pass from me considering him cont to miss games due to injuries. I personally would like us to try Troy Brown Jr at pg duties to see what we have in our guys first.

Should be out of the question to bring in a starting PG who's a bad defender. It has to be someone who knows what he's doing on that side of the ball, because man... Zach doesn't.

Graham is a SG trapped in a small PG's body. Not ideal for us, and that's putting it politely. He's like a slightly better version of Coby, and the Bulls don't need that player.

We don’t need another combo score first guard

It is going to be a matter of roster preference then. The money offered will likely be the same. The Knicks do seem to have their **** together more at this point.
