I'd rather give these types 1 year minimum deals with a team option for a second than ruin our cap on overpaying for mediocre talent.

I don't want any of these guys running my 2nd unit.

I especially don't want them as the starting point guard if our usual starting point guard is injured for any amount of time.

That’s why I want to sign a player like this to see that he is better.

I’m not convinced Graham is much better than Augustin.

This 100%. You need 48 minutes of solid PG play to be a good team in this league this is especially true if you don't have a wing creator ala LeBron.

Graham at 4/52 is about right. He's a fringe starter and would be one of the better backups in the league. The real question is how much Monk would command and deciding which one to move forward with.

I could live with Elfrid being our backup point guard.
TJ McConnell is like the Matt Carroll of point guards, I would be happy with him as well. Not flashy, but very hard working and gets the job done.

Looking forward to your take on Graham Vs Wanamaker once you see Wanamaker play.

13.2 PPG

Devonte has been hitting some big threes lately. The problem is that’s really the only thing about his game that is above average or good. I’d like to have both him and Monk back but I’d feel a lot safer making the financial commitment to Monk than Devonte. Who knows, maybe we sign no other free agents and just give deals to both of them.

Graham and Monk have the two highest +/- numbers on the team. Devonté has 3.2 per 36 and Malik, 3.0, followed by Washington at 1.5. So it is not even close. I wonder if Graham somehow brings more stability to the team, especially in the half-court, hence their improved performance when he handles the ball? Monk is the more brilliant player, and he brings a completely different set of skills. He currently leads the team in 3P%. Graham, on the other hand, is second on the team in assists, with 5.1 per game, and 6.1 per 36 minutes.

All in all, it would be great to bring back both players. I am not conversant with how the contracts and caps work, but I imagine doing so will be a big challenge for Mr. Kupchak.

His scoring is bad analytically and also under the observation of the eye test. I would not bat an eyelid if we did not resign him next year. I'd only bring him back on a bargain $8 million or so per year or less or on a short-term contract. Let him walk if he is getting $10 or $12 million per offers.

If I had to guess Graham will get a few offers for the MLE for contenders as he is a guy who can score off the bench, play off ball next to a ball dominant player or start for you as well.

Graham will get a few 10 million dollar per year offers.
Monk will get a few offers in the 5-7 Million dollar range.
Zeller will probably sign for less than 5 million.

I think the general consensus of the board is looking at just these players.. and not the other free agents or the money other teams have to spend.

Graham low cap hold helps us a good deal, I would probably be willing to offer him 3/36 with a team option at the end. Let Monk and Zeller Walk unless they are super cheap. Then use the the other 25 million in cap space on other players.

Ball- Graham
Rozier
Hayward- Bridges
PJ
Free Agent signing or 11th pick

Not a bad core 7 guys and then we just fill in gaps with good vets.

Graham had good moments here. But I would much rather see what Riller can do and draft a guard at 11 than pay Devonte anything more than 6 million. He's very replaceable.

Graham’s Defensive RPM of 1.97 was seventh-highest among point guards.

With Ball and Hayward coming in as playmakers, Graham saw less of the ball and more open 3-pointers. And yet, he still excelled by finishing in the 97th percentile as a spot-up shooter. This season, 77 players had a minimum of 200 spot-up possessions, according to Synergy, and only Marcus Morris of the Clippers finished with more points per possession than Graham.

Every advanced stat loved Graham in 2021. He was first on the team in net rating, first in defensive rating, sixth in the league among point guards in RPM and 14th in the league in individual net rating in clutch situations.

He was vital to the Hornets no matter the role he played in, whether it was as a starter, off the bench, as a playmaker or as a shooter.

Hard to imagine a world where the team doesn't resign Graham. Coach loves him, he can play on or off the ball, accepted his role off the bench without complaint. Only way I see it happening is if some team offers him 15+ million a season using cap space, which is very unlikely.

I mostly see teams offering him their MLE, which is an easy match for Hornets because it will be a 3/30 because you can't offer more than 3 years with MLE. At that price tag his contract is easily moveable and also gives us a nice salary to toss in future trades.

LOL. Graham is a good player, but approaching 20 a year is absolutely insane.
