4 games left for decision on 2 way players for Pistons(50-gms)

Post#1 » by kellmellus50 » Tue Mar 30, 2021 1:26 pm

We have too many Guards ,and 2 way players who will have to be signed someday this season.50 games

That means we have 4 games to decide to cut Lee and Frank or sign them and cut someone else .like DEIVIDAS
SIRVYDIS

What do you think the Pistons will do to solve this problem ?

Could they put Lee and Frank on DNP list at 49 games till the end of season ? and not play them anymore ?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30991398/sources-two-way-contracts-more-flexible%3fplatform=amp

Just wanted to add, I get it’s not official on this article. But I feel like they already decided this. A lot of teams are giving their two way guys decent playing time.

The expected agreement, however, will address concerns. The players currently on two-way deals will be paid at the standard NBA minimum rate once they go past the 50-game limit -- allowing them to make the same money as if they had been converted to a standard contract, sources said. And, given that the season is half over and teams are still navigating trying to complete the regular season amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the potential fears about players on two-ways being used in place of players with full roster spots have lessened.

Although two-way players will get paid at the increased rate once they pass 50 games, the two-way contracts will remain at the same lower figure they were previously -- a win for teams that are trying to navigate both the hard cap and the luxury tax over the final few months of the regular season

I don't think we have to worry about it this season, as per chrbal's article.

But if they were to DNP Lee at 49 games, they'd end up losing him. And that would be a bigger blunder than any blunder made by SVG.

No clue, in the literal sense. I'd have to know what the Pistons are required to do, which I don't.

As far as the “too many guards”. It’ll be interesting to see how we adjust once Hayes gets back. I don’t see devidis being too much of a factor.

I don’t really see McGruder or Ellington being with the team next season, so I don’t really count them. Joseph I think should be somewhere else next season especially with his contract. I think Dennis Smith and the pistons are better off moving on.

I’d like to see them cut Ellington to ring chase, but bring in a project wing to replace him.

With all the guards we have we should run the triangle of 3 guards starting line up.

Not that it matters, but why are you listing Frank twice?

A mistake, thanks for catching.lol

But the point is there's not enough minutes for 9 guards unless they do a triangle.

Wayne at minimum should go and let him ringchase. Not even sure at this point the reason to keep him around unless he's really influential with the coaching staff and the younger guys

McGruder and Ellington can play at the 1, 2, and 3 in the modern NBA. Josh and Diallo can play at least the 2, 3, and 4.

I would counter with Plumlee and Okafor can only play at the 5, the other 15 players currently on the roster can play at least two positions. Some as many as four.

Been looking around, what are the rules/rights on 2-way players? I'd hate to loose Saben Lee, he's got the capability to be a better/bigger Ish Smith type of guy I think.

Found it, looks like RFA.

Two-way Free Agents

A Two-Way player (other than a first round draft pick whose third or fourth year option was not exercised) will be a Restricted Free Agent at the conclusion of a Two-Way Contract if he was on the NBA team’s active or inactive list for 15 or more days of the NBA regular season in the last season of such contract and provided that the team makes a Qualifying Offer to the player.

Troy weaver already said he will not cut Wayne Ellenton so a team can pick him up for free.

I'm not a fan at all of playing Frank Jackson as he's trying hard for a roster spot at the risk of being kinda selfish at times. I hope he'll be back on the bench full time once Killian will be back.

we have a glut of point guards and a lack of big men. We should keep Tyler Cook around, release Frank Jackson, and bench DSJ once Hayes comes back.

The only guards that will be under contract for next season are Hayes, Josh Jackson and Sirvydis, as Joseph and McGruder's deals won't be picked up. We need Lee in some role next year and his ceiling is looking pretty good. Instead of just shifting to the league minimum after 50 games, I'd like to see him signed to a decent two - three year deal with a team option for one more. Lock up a good rotation point guard before he gets more expensive. He's earned it.

I would then sign Cook to a two-way for the rest of the season if possible.

there’s no limit on games played for 2-way players this season.
