Re: Around the NBA: 2020-21 Season
Lakers guard Dennis Schröder strongly hinted that he intends to reach free agency rather than signing an in-season extension, noting that he wants to see his options on the open market
Marc Stein of The New York Times hears from two sources that Schröder has turned down extension offers in the range of $80MM over four years.

I think Schroder became irrelevant as a potential sign as soon as he turned down 4/84 from a far superior team.

I agree that the Bulls treated him well and I hope I'm just misreading his tweet.
Not that hutch was some great star who deserved better treatment but we really have no idea how he was treated by the company.. it may have been great or maybe not. I have a feeling he was traded because he didn’t feel properly treated... The reality could be anything but his perception was that of not being treated well. It also isn’t a major slam against the organization, it’s not a glowing report he is just saying his fit is better there with some shade, but not Scottie Pippen level hate.
You're right I don't know the inner workings of the team and how they handled Hutchison. But this year it seemed, at least to me, like he sat out due to something going on in his personal life. Or maybe he sat out because he wanted to be traded? And the Bulls let him sit out, talked to him about it and eventually traded him (which I'd assume is something he wanted, but I could be wrong about that).
Didn't the Bulls also give him a promise to draft him when they did?

Who knows, but I didn’t read that much into it. It’s a common phrase. I think it was just his way of bragging on himself in his first game after being traded. I liked it.

You guys see the DMs of KD’s that Michael Rapaport published? I think he’s about to get a little backlash. Possibly including from the NBA.

Yep, what a bad look. I really dislike Rapaport, first of all. I don't think he's funny. His entire schtick is "I'm a loud prick from New York!". Kevin Durant just can't keep his thumbs from responding to trolls, even ones whose literal career is being an ****.
A grown ass man worth hundreds of millions of dollars asked some dorky guy a foot shorter than him to meet him to fight on the sidewalk. Rapaport should have shown up with some sparring gloves.

The NBA has largely ignored KDs online profile. He’s told people to kill themselves, made crude comments, etc.
Rappaport seems like he’s pretty unhinged. I think this is two dudes that like to curse at each other and Rappaport went off the rails today. Seems like a weird dude between this and his Barstool lawsuit, which Barstool has been plastering over their social media today. Could be Rappaports way of diverting eyes from that. Really weird story nonetheless.

This is absolutely not a surprise. KD has shown and proven to be a extremely sensitive person, and him acting like a tough guy through message on social media is just pathetic.
You'd think someone with his type of lifestyle and money, would have better things to do with his life - hell, I could think of a million better things to do with my time, but whether it be fake accounts or responding to pointless tweets, he just comes across as so soft.
As far as being reprimanded by the league, being that they were private messages, you'd think that they wouldn't go there as far as punishment goes?
Man, he is so fragile, far out.
Why so serious?

Is anyone really surprised by Durant and a comedian trading barbs like that?

Re: Around the NBA: 2020-21 Season
I agree about it being private messages and fake tough guy nonsense. I just wonder if the NBA will take action regardless now that the statements are public. As one article I read pointed out, the NBA took action against Rondo and Kobe for making homophobic slurs and even developed a public service add campaign against it featuring Grant Hill. And that was years ago when things like this were taken less seriously by the public.
Just will be interesting to follow.

Thank you, I was starting to think I was the only person on earth who had ever heard the phrase. Like you said, it's no big deal, hell it's not even a small deal.

It seems pretty clear to me that Hutch meant that the Bulls thought of him as trash, that is not a player who could help them. Which is indeed what the Bulls thought. There's nothing in there to indicate that he believed that he was treated badly, aside from not getting playing time.

Honestly, I am happy for Hutch that his issue seems, in retrospect, to being irked about being out of the rotation. I am happy that he got traded. IMO, Brown brings all the defense that Hutch did and has some offensive potential.

I'm curious what he's hoping for in FA. 20 millionish seems like a more than fair offer. I can't see anyone giving him a monster offer. Maybe he can eek out 4/100 from someone.

I don't think it's a big deal either, but as a hardcore Bulls fan I'm just curious to know why Hutch thinks he was trash to the Bulls. From the outside looking in, it appeared he was given every opportunity to succeed but was just injured too often. Seems like a pretty open-shut case, but his Tweet + the weird circumstances surrounding the end of his tenure gives me the vibe that something more may have been going on.
