He would probably be better than JRich, but I wouldn't want to give up a lot to get him. Still not the best fit with his weak shooting.

I saw an online post about the Mavs having interest in Mitchell Robinson in case the Knicks plan to not exercise his Team Option and move him instead. Maybe for a S&T?

Robinson recently encountered a fractured foot and is out for the season. Knicks might not want to extend him given his condition, and its a case of the Mavs having time to wait it out with Luka and KP being so young. Mitchell is 7'1", 22 years old.

If I had to guess, DFS + WCS for a signed and extended Mitchell Robinson should be of fair value.

Not even close, unfortunately. Robinson would be a really fun player to have, but I’m assuming his price tag is close to what Collins and Gordon are worth.

I think those guys you mentioned are above Mitchell in terms of value. Both are generally healthy and Mitchell has a fractured foot. Collins averages 20 and 10. Mitchell does 8 pts per game. For a player who goes into UFA the following year and only does 8 PPG, NYK might want to trade him for something now than have someone offer Mitchell a contract they dont want to match and have him walk for nothing. 8 PPG is comparable to what DFS and WCS does on the court. I think it's fair value especially if New York wants to develop Obi Toppin more alongside Randle.

I hope you’re right, but I can’t imagine a deal ever gets close without Brunson being included.

Robinson is one of the best defensive players in the league when healthy

true ... but rarely, is he healthy
JRich (Signature and Trade) + WCS + Remove Protection from Selection for Robinson ...
I think it's a fair deal

Interesting topic covered today in Tim Cato's article ... https://theathletic.com/team/mavericks/

The question was asked who would you go after in free agency if both were available... John Collins or Lonzo Ball?

I think there's a reasonable case for Ball. It seems to be that Collins and KP (and basically our front line) might require a lot of rethinking in figuring out the distribution of KP-Collins minutes whereas Ball would simply plug in next to Luca. Then there's Ball's defense. Plus he's a playmaker who doesn't necessarily demand the ball. It's an interesting question. It's not likely both will be truly available... and both would generate a big salary chunk. Still....

I didn't realize it before, but the Mavs can have cap space in the summer of 2022 if they don't use it this year.

They could free up $30 mil of space this year by renouncing THJ, letting WCS go and potentially stretch/waiving Powell. This assumes JRich does not opt out. They could use this for a Ball or Collins max offer. If it doesn't work, they could just carry the space over and try to get a free agent in 2022. They might even fill in with 1 year deals to WCS, Melli or other aging free agents. They will have a draft pick for 2022, so if it goes totally wheels off, they would get something for it. Although hopefully Green could step up and fill in. Letting THJ go for nothing would be a risk, but still might work out OK.

There's Luka's cap hold, but he's getting extended probabely, and the Mavs can't afford not extending THJ.

My guess is they'll try to bring back everyone on 1+1 deals (2nd year team option) and punt this summer and try again for a free agent in 2022. Maybe go for Beal.

I just wish Mavs traded for Aaron Gordon. It'd be a perfect opportunity trade for Mavs similar to KP.
This team needs elite athleticism in forward position.
- Defending Lebron/Kawhi
- Weak side rim protection, help defense
- Rebounding
- Cutting strong to the rim

Aaron Gordon would answer all those boxes. He already started to do those for Nuggets. They got him when his stock was lowest. Now, he doesn't need to focus on creating shots. Just finish some easy plays on offense and focus on the defensive side. He'd be Mavs next Shawn Marion.

Anyway, this team needs that guy like Andre Igoudoala joining to GSW. DFS-Maxi are very nice pieces to have but they're simply not that elite category. There are too many freak of natures in the league that makes DFS-Maxi mortal. Giannis-Lebron-Kawhi-Durant-MPJ and more.

Anyway, I'm still glad that we didn't spend too much on Lowry, N.Powell, Fournier type of players. Just give all picks, rookies for an opportunity trade like Aaron Gordon to complete the core of the team.

If asking price is not too high, Mavs might look for a sign&trade options for a Beal trade.

Even for this offseason, Mavs can offload Powell contract perhaps for 2nd round pick or a rookie. In general, most of the teams would be able to open cap space if they know Beal is signing with them. Kinda like what Pat Riley does with Miami. Even if he takes some bad contracts, he finds ways to offload it when a FA becomes available.

Signing some right value contracts keeps your flexibility. Seth-Maxi-DFS-Burke contracts were on point. You can always trade them if you need to open cap space. Hope Mavs FO can still find those type of contracts.
Nerlens Noel overpaid the offer and D.Powell's overpayment was not great. You can always find Mcgee or similar contracts for less than MLE. They would give you D.Powell's production easily. I'd like to keep WCS, Brunson, THJ but not with a price tag that makes them negative assets.
Brunson for 70m/4 year would not be a good deal meanwhile 34m/4year would be a tradable contract

Brunson is absolutely must keep player. 2’nd best player of the season on Mavs IMHO. Should be a starter and play 30 minutes at least. Almost perfect role player. If Mavs ever win a tittle next 10 years I see Jalen as a part of that team.

If you lose Brunson you kill the bench production.

What business goals, for the off-season ... that we can realistically capture ...? Jr / Grant / Lonzo / Conley is born ... Batum / Porter / DeRozan .. (I still think they should have done the rest on Gordon ... maybe it wasn't open enough ... anyway) ... Brunson ... if there is a way I can play 30 minutes in the Playoff, pay him ... If it doesn't work ... (defensive liability) and it will only be a backup ... change. It would be our best asset + you deserve to develop your talent elsewhere

Off season will be bringing everybody back and trying to add another rotation guy at pretty much any position with the full MLE.

A S&T involving Porzingis for Collins and then adding Richaun Holmes would be my ideal off-season

I'd check if the Kings are interested in Hield/Powell swap, leverage in the tlcontract talks with THJ and JRich
