https://www.amazinavenue.com/2021/3/18/22337297/mets-morning-news-joey-lucchesi-looks-sharp-dominic-smith-experiencing-soreness-spring-training

Joey Lucchesi had a strong start against the Marlins as he continues to fight for the final rotation spot, and his “churve” could make him stand out from the others.

Dominic Smith was a late scratch from the lineup with wrist soreness but manager Luis Rojas was not too concerned about it.

Steven Tarpley had another good outing and is making a case for himself to make the team out of the bullpen.

Albert Almora Jr. and Kevin Pillar give the Mets real depth and options in the outfield this season. Almora especially has looked great so far which could be because of a reunion with Chili Davis who was his hitting coach in Chicago.

J.D. Davis is also pleased with how the spring has gone and thinks he has improved his defense at third base.

Pete Alonso looks like the Pete Alonso from 2019 which bodes well for the 2021 team.

great signing.

its also a partial no trade clause which might not seem like important now, but I can imagine 5 years down the road it becoming quite valuable.

I still think Noah will be the odd man out to be re-signed unless conforto prices himself out and way overestimates his worth.

With Boras being Conforto's agent..I see him going to FA for sure. The mets probably still want to bring him back but let him go out on the free market and see what he's worth and we can potentially match if Conforto wants to stay in NY.

Glad to see the Lindor extension wrapped up, would've been a damn shame to have that lingering over both the Mets and Lindor the entire season. Going to be interesting to see if this impacts Conforto/deGrom's decision at the end of the year and how committed the Mets are to becoming an evil empire. With Stroman and Thor contract's up as well, we're going to learn a lot about Cohen and Sandy if the Mets are winning.

most i'll go with conforto is 180-200mm range

anything more than that he could walk, you couls re-sign nimmo for less and possibly retain the better player.

nimmo's best war in a season was 4.6, conforto's best war in a season was 3.7

Yeah I definitely could’ve seen Lindor hearing it from the Citi crowd if that extension didn’t get signed. Huge sigh of relief. Hopefully Conforto and Syndergaard are next.

it's conforto or thor, it's not going to be both.

cohen isn't going to have like 80 million per year committed to 3 players.

I believe that Stroman's $19M comes off the books after this year.

that has nothing to do with conforto and thor making bank and the mets need to choose which one to keep.

an good offensive hitter that statiscally isn't better than nimmo or the 29 year old starting pitcher in a league where teams are looking.

What does Nimmo have to do with anything? As for Thor, let’s see what he looks like when he gets back from TJS before we start giving out contracts.

because the wait and see approach worked with wheeler.

you don't let a 28 year old walk away.

Noah’s value is on the open market is still questionable.

yeah its just unrealistic to expect Cohen to re-sign everyone

plus, the compensation pick the team gets back is actually pretty valuable long term for re-stocking the farm system which is certainly a priority for the team.

Its really really really unlikely any of those 3 take the QO next year. Even if Thor or COnforto get hurt/have bad years the market for them will still be multi-year deals. Stroman has actually been quite consistent throughout his career so its hard to expect him to put up a 5.00 ERA

Personally I think thor is overrated, and I'd much rather us re-sign conforto even if it means overpaying. Because assuming thor has an average year at minimum, hes absolutely going to get paid #1 money as a #2 starter. He isn't even as good as Bauer but someone is going to offer him a 5 year gtd given his age and reputation.
