It's frustrating as hell. You keep waiting for them to have learned their lesson, that EVERY TEAM, even the worst teams in NBA, have professional pride and beating the Nets would be a crowning achievement for them, so we have to start these games like it's the 76ers or Bucks and run these scrub teams out of the building.

Yeah i mean its a long season. and theres COVID and then you have everyone wanting to beat us as Villians. So if some awful team surprises us, punches us in the mouth and steals a win thats no big deal...

BUT

-We have struggles with awful teams for like 3 or 4 straight games
-We KNOOOOOW the rockets of all teams would be out for blood
-Nash has said time and time again the past half dozen games we need to take these teams serious and play with urgency

There is no reason why we shouldnt have blown their doors off... and really blown the Wolves doors off. This is not lack of focus they snuck up on us. this is we know its coming and we still didnt show up.

The only encouraging thing for me was to see the fire that Kyrie played with. not even his play just yelling, fist pumping, being vocal, getting his teammates emotionally up. We needed that from the pre tip-off huddle though, not 40 minutes into the game.

Somebody needs to grab these duds early when the game starts and get them up. And I know i get on Nash but call a timeout and chew these guys out a bit. i know your managing egos but you cant be buddy buddy 24/7. Yank the entire 5 man lineup once in a while for your end of bench scrubs to close a quarter.

and for gods sake GET ON THE DAMN REFS AND GET A T. I'm tired of seeing our guys knocked to the floor with no call so consistently.

Like he'll hit the occasional 3, but it's in addition to bricking a lot of wide open ones and playing way too reckless on both sides of the ball leading to sloppy TOs and bad fouls. Like, I don't think playing big lineups with Green at the 3 can be worse.

The problem is that there is literally no one else to give minutes to. With Shamet and KD injured our backup wings/guards are TJ and TLC. It's either TLC or play Bruce Brown 40+ minutes a game. And I get why they don't want to play 34 year old Jeff Green out of position.

If Harden misses significant time it's going to get ugly. We have a glut of bigs and horrible depth in the backcourt.

I dont buy it. we have a 17 man roster.

Play blake or green or claxton 10-12 minutes at SF if you need to. they would not be worse. play chiozza in a 3 guard lineup, it wouldnt be worse. play TJ next to harden/kyrie more, it wouldnt be worse

Harden 38/TJ 10
Kyrie 35/TJ 10
Harris 32/Brown 10/TJ 6
Green 20/Blake 20/Brown 8
DJ 16/Claxton 28/Blake 4

No TLC in that lineup.

Judging him off the Pistons was stupid. Basically been a 3 and D guy who makes smart players.

Him and Claxton also work great together.

Traditional PF’s can work in today’s NBA huh?

I wouldnt call him traditional. we switch him on everyone, he shoots more FGA from 3 then he does in the paint, and he doesnt rebound all that well anymore. He is closer to a stretch 4 then he is a traditional PF

I'm coming around to Blake/Claxton but I think Green/Claxton gives us better D and shooting.

The thing with Blake/Claxton is you get claxtons shot blocking with blakes charges and it provides more paint protection. nut you lose a bit in mobility with blake vs green.

If Blake can shoot it better from 3 its an easier decision. either way claxton needs 24-28 center mintues a night at a minimum

Griffin is a traditional PF?

He can defend 3 positions, has range out to the 3pt line, is a fantastic passer, and handles the ball like a wing.

He's like the definition of a new age PF.

He is a traditional PF. I thought new age PF’s were guys that would be considered bigger SF’s in years past like Jeremi Grant or DeAndre Hunter.

New age PFs are ones who shoot threes and can switch.

Outside of the knee mileage. He does it very well and effective. His body is stronger than it looks and he basically forced Olynyk multiple times off the box to post and get cutters.

MrDollarBills wrote:While I agree that we need to start off better, the fact that the Nets are winning these close games is a silver lining. Especially when Claxton is on the floor in high pressure situations making huge defensive plays.

The team is learning how to win without playing great, I looked at the net ratings of Harden and Harden/Kyrie lineups and they are substantially worse than some of the KD/Kyrie lineups from earlier in the season but the W/L is actually a lot better. And it wasn't an insignificant difference either - those KD lineups were +15ish while the Harden lineups are about a +3.

Huge part of that statistical dichotomy would be Claxton and improved bench play. We've been shutting down teams in the 4th quarter (not just by Nets standards but legitimately good defense) and it's carrying us against some dicey offensive execution.

On the bright side, it looks like Aldridge and Shamet are available.

No KD, Harden, Dinwiddie, Griffin. So, we’ll just have to settle with the debut of LaMarcus Aldridge.

TNT isn’t usually blacked out due to the game being on YES but it’s blacked out. Weird

LA looks great and especially defensively and it’s been his drop coverage doing it. Keeping a near the rim for protection and rebounding is huge.
I don’t know why he has been the only big allowed to play traditional defense schemes but it’s working.

I’m watching the greatest Nets team in my lifetime
East #1 Draft Picks: Fultz, Banchero, Wiggins, Cuninigham
West #1 Draft Picks: Edwards, WIlliamson, Ayton, Towns

Return to Brooklyn Nets
