The good:
For starters, we played Houston. And we got the win. But it was the WAY we got it that was GREAT not good. 35 assists tonight. I repeat; 35 assists on 46 FGs We shot 52% from the floor 41.5 from 3. 3 guys had at least 8 assists and get this, NONE of them were Jaylen or Jayson. Tonight we saw the best version of these Boston Celtics without doubt. Best version of Marcus tonight. Ony 6 shots but 10 assists. Just sat in the middle of the Houston zone and just dissected them. Also had his best defensive game all year. This is the Marcus we need. But this game was all about two players: TimeLord and Fournier. Rob was tremendous. Statistically his best game ever but overall among his best too. Rob is (no pun intended) at the center of EVERYTHING that is good at both ends of the floor for this team. 20/9/8 tonight. Almost a triple double. He was the fulcrum of this motion offense finding shooters and cutters. Guys are getting a ton of easy looks with him as the passer right now. He has absolutely now established his position as THE starting big on this team. Defensively, he changes shots with his length, he gets deflections. He's becoming everything we hoped he'd become. A beneficiary of a few of his passes was Evan Fournier who on the way to another lackluster ballgame where he was completely absent, he erupted in the 4th for 6 3's and 20 points. Finished with 23, most of which came with the Jay's on the bench. And honestly, this was so necessary. We need Fournier to be good in order to be the best version of ourselves and we need guys to actively look for him. His shooting creates space and his off ball movement opens things up for other players. What we saw tonight is who this team needs to be for the rest of this season. If we could just get EVERYONE healthy for a change!
The bad:
Not a ton to dislike tonight. The Jay's still need to learn how to trust their teammates. Asking them to consistently run the offense and make plays for others is just not a good look for this team. Far too often, they press, they iso, they get tunnel vision and can't see guys wide open. We really do need guys who are going to make plays for others with the cachet to make the Jay's give up the ball and move without the ball if they want to get it sometimes instead of just iso-ing at the top of the arc. Jaylen knocked knees with a guy but I heard he was okay. Tonight, we were supposed to get back the corpse of Romeo Langford but that of course did now happen because again, he's either dead or does not really exist. Hoping to get Thompson back soon to slot back in as a backup big. Hopefully less minutes for some of our "Shaqtin" candidates Grant and Moe Wagner. Grant through an alley to literally no one in this game. Maybe it was supposed to go to Romeo's ghost. I dunno.
But anyways. A needed win. And we needed to play the way we did. Can we just bottle some of this up?
