Re: Victory Cigar!!! BOS 118, HOU 102 (24-25)
Well, I said it after around game 3, and again when they were 8-3 (before Kemba). They need to whip pass the ball, multiple times, to get the defense looking the wrong way or be a step out of position. Tatum and Brown have either slow perception or lack of trust; but they are the two most guilty of failing to do this. And when it's not instinctive, it is the coaches job, or staff's job if the Head Coach delegates, to teach it. Until Tatum and Brown master the skill of the Quick pass with attentiveness to detail this team will not be able to go all the way. And for the record, the best Celtic ever of the catch and whip it pass was Bill Russell. Not a coincidence that his teams won. But I can't lay the fault on Tatum and Brown since it's not instinctive and the coaching staff obviously has not effectively communicated this important nuance to them.

It's not really mattering if it's 2021 Houston or the 96 Bulls, its worth noting that when they play/execute this style of play and effort consistently, they are giving themselves the best opportunity to win.
It's frustrating to how they've lost games through inconsistent effort, lack of execution. So yes, when they do things like this, it's noteworthy.

You sir are a scholar and a gentleman.
Buckners you may have noticed I never went as far as you. But I think we can stand firm on the fact that we might as well give Tacko a shot. If Boban can play real NBA minutes, let’s see if this guy can to! Otherwise we lose to NOP twice and think “if only we had someone who could stop Zion at the rim” or we’ll be facing Embiid in the playoffs again in the blink of an eye. But whoops, we never gave Tacko a shot.

So for all the praise of Smart — and well-deserved, no doubt — let’s remember that he had two of the goofiest turnovers of all time in this game — no look/behind r back passes that completely sailed out of bounds tens of feet from their intended recipients.
Closer a game, and we probably remember those a bit more.

Timelord easy. Smart played great as well. But it was the Rockets. Let’s see what happens against Charlotte.

KO --> Grant
Amir --> TT/Kornet
JB --> much-improved JB
Jerebko --> Semi
TRo --> PP
But again, our stars have to buy in. Will the Jays be content playing a more team-oriented, less-iso-oriented game? And it might be hard to do this in the middle of the season.
Biggest problem is Kemba is no IT. IT's efficiency that year was all time great. He played a style that every player right now wishes they could play - 3s, layups, insane FT rate.

Reason for that is Smart and Kemba focused on playing team ball.
There's really no need to overhaul the offense, Smart and Kemba just need to realize that they don't have to shoot a lot for the Celts to win games.
Lemme guess... Cs had all 3 of their 20-25ppg scorers for a change, and Smart could just play his game without trying to make up for 20-45 missing ppg like he's had to do in 70% of his games the last 4 years.
LMAOOOOOOOOOO. The lesson that will never be learned.
Without question. This "next man up" idea is just ridiculous. A 20 point per game scorer just cant be replaced by a bench player. And even worse is that since that bench player is starting now you have guys who really have no business being in games getting meaningful minutes off the bench to replace the original bench players minutes. It's unsustainable.
If guys are in flow, Smart generally defers. When the offense locks up ... Smart takes on more of a scoring load because nobody else is doing anything. He's not good at that.

It doesn't have to be a perfect fit. Rob for example doesn't even take threes like Horford does. Just take the core skills/strengths, actions, and concepts then apply them to the current cast of characters. Kemba doesn't need to get all the way to the rim. Drive, touch the paint, kick or take his reliable midranger. The Jays scoring ability more than makes up for what we lose going from IT to Kemba. Offense doesn't need to be Kemba-centric the way we did with IT. But the screening, cutting, passing, and misdirection can all be replicated. They're already doing it 5% of the time this season lol. This game was obviously the exception.

I agree - just wish Kemba would get into his mind to like you said - touch the paint and kick. And obviously the rest of the scoring punch is much greater now than then. Also - I know a lot on here are down on Grant but I think he could def be a superior version of KO. His 3 point touch has really come along and he's much better on the defensive end than Kelly could dream of, even with the loss of inches.

I think if he plays the way he did last night, regardless of who's on the floor with him, he's maximizing his contribution to the team's chances of winning. He should always play to his strengths. Forcing it just plays into the weak parts of his game, and decreases our chances to win. Just my opinion on it. This team needs a facilitator/creator far more than whatever it is Marcus thinks he is when he's not playing that style.

I absolutely agree, which illustrates the point that when the team is healthy and they have their full compliment of scorers, Smart can play the way he's meant to play and his true value is on display.

Yeah I had to run my own race here my guy. My admission in no means suggests that I'm done with Tacko. It's just that Tacko maybe more than anyone else has suffered from the lack of practice time in between games to work on skills. He would be much further along in a regular year. But it is what it is now. The only question is: do the circumstances of this season end up costing him a spot for next season. It's 50/50 now where previously, I would've bet money before this season that for sure he'd have a real spot next year. This is a sad admission...

Going by years of experience here of top 10 guys for each roster:
2016-17: 1 2 3 4 4 5 6 6 9 11
2020-21: R 1 2 3 3 4 6 8 9 9
This roster is a bit younger.
