Marc Gasol On Lakers Role After Andre Drummond Signing: 'You're Plan C, D'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Apr 3, 2021 4:05 pm

Marc Gasol discussed his diminishing role since the Los Angeles Lakers signed Andre Drummond, saying that it was no longer a matter of when he would play, but if he would get into the game.

"I think there's an 'if' -- 'if' they need you. And it's a big 'if. You're not Plan A right now. You're Plan C, D. ... You have to accept it because that's your job. And that's what you sign up to do. It's never easy to accept that," said Gasol.

Drummond was named the Lakers starting center after being signed, with Montrezl Harrell playing backup center.

Gasol, who signed a two-year deal with the Lakers last offseason, was averaging career lows in points, rebounds, and minutes.

Gasol added that he remains committed to the Lakers.

"I'm committed to this team. It's a hard pill to swallow because I know I'm going to be out of the lineup at some point. It's never easy on a player. As a basketball player, you want to play. You want to contribute, especially when you made that commitment for that reason. But, we'll see."

Gasol should have stuck to the plan and taken his a$$ back to Spain last summer. He knew he was done

Kuzma's defense is better than gasol's at this point in his career, the writing was on the wall.

At this stage in his career - at age 36 & statistical decline overall - Gasol will not be plan A for any team.

Best bet is to aim for a buyout & sign on to a team that has legitimate need for depth at center / long playoff run.

Best destination(s) : Miami, Portland

Marc Gasol will stay professional and when the time comes he will show that he can hold his own.

Sorry Marc. You signed based on the assumption you'd be starting. The Lakers signed you based on the assumption you wouldn't be averaging 5/4/2.

Sometimes plans have to change. It's nothing personal.
