Looks like Embiid kinda stumbled when Towns started his move and was mostly trying to disrupt while not fouling. The real play happened when Towns got him off balance off the dribble.

Toronto is easily the best run organization in the league.

I was one of the head caciques for the Draft Towns over Okafor squad (this is well we fell in the draft with our usual luck and picked up KP I believe). Towns in his few seasons neglected the defensive side of the ball, the NBA was transitioning into a switch league and Towns game was perfectly designed for half court slow pace ball, but Towns is a 39-40% career 3pt shooter, which has be a record for players at 7". I can only think of KD and Bertans who are this efficient. His ability to stretch the floor is what separates him other bigs. KP is actually average, he's shooting 35% from 3PT. KP has "deeper range" but Towns is more consistent and I always felt Towns was the superior prospect despite how unique KP being labeled as a unicorn.

I always wanted Towns on the Knicks but he's tough af and I never understood the soft labels throw at him, I just thought Minnesota one of the worst ran franchises in sports (even worse than the Knicks because they had more chances to build a dynasty and decided Johnny Flynn + 10 other PGs was the vibe) which made Towns look soft from all the losing and carrying he had to do. Towns is under the radar because he's an all nba talent, top 15 player. He's being buried in Minn.

He's currently average 1.5 blocks and 4.8 apg.
Along with 25 ppg with KD shooting efficiency.

Randle already gives us production almost at this level since Randle is shooting extremely well from 3pt and is averaging 6apg, basically he's become Boris Diaw like. It help eases my depression of not having Towns.

I know KP is a fantasy beast and a unique talent, but if Towns is tired of losing in Minn, I hope he gets traded to a contender and displays his will to win. This is a good kid, no scandals...overcoming his mom's covid death and still playing hard every night.

Him and Anthony Edwards along with Jaden McDaniels really the only dudes who play hard for Minnesota. Minnesota better draft an elite talent and sign some veteran free agents. I don't know if Towns can waste his career waiting for young guys to develop in Minnesota while he's entering his prime soon (27-32). Towns is 25 and we'll see what Minn does. How can you fail with a 7" big who can shoot, post rebound, pass and play potentially good defense ? Only in Minnesota

Gary Trent last 2 games:

24 points on 8-14 FG and 6-9 3PT
32 points on 12-22 FG and 6-11 3PT

Melo - is it possible that we are dead wrong calling him Tim Hardaway JR. To be fair Trent is only 22 and THJ didn’t become a 38-40% 3PT shooter until he was 28.

We could be wrong but I’m not ready to change my stance. Those last two games were against g league players. Hardaway would occasionally have big games against bad teams as well. I still think Trent is a 6th man long term.

Trent is enticing because he’s 22 but I still have Norman Powell as a target way ahead of him. Just a much more versatile player/scorer.

After this summer I would like to see the following:

PG: Lonzo Ball
SG: Norman Powell
SF: RJ Barrett
PF: Julius Randle
C: Mitch Robinson

Would also like to bring back Burks off the bench next to IQ.

That starting lineup would have four players all capable of shooting 38-42% from 3PT on significant volume. When you factor in Burks and IQ we could become a team that can blow a zone right open.

I also like the idea of having 3 shot creators in the SL in Randle RJ and Ball. It’s an underrated aspect of their games in the sense that they can find the open shooter/cutter and that team would want to get out and run.

On Curry declining

Is it all Minnesota though? No doubt the franchise is badly run.

And Towns seems like he's capable of playing good defense and he's certainly talented on offense.

But every time I see Towns play, he'll clearly take at least 3 plays off on defense. Not even trying. Not trying to impose his will defensively. I get saving himself, fouls etc. On the offensive side of the ball he has the whole arsenal, but he does what I've seen players do on badly coached teams, where, again, he has like 3 possessions a game where he takes a really low % kind of shot - early in the clock, rest of the team isn't down - I can't pinpoint it, but where you go "Man, they just threw that possession away", and Towns is in the middle of that.

He seems personally responsible for giving away 5/6 points a game and that alone might be worth an extra 8-10 wins.

Towns is an excellent player. I think he needs to find another gear mentally where he wants to be great. And wants to be coached and pushed to that level.

Would be cool if it was on the Knicks with Kenny Payne\Thibs

Still a solid trade for Raptors, where they exchange a UFA for an RFA and about 5 years younger. Either they decide to keep Trent Jr after seeing him in person and the 20 million hit is on the younger guy who might still have upside, or they move on and save 20 million against either player. I think they sign Trent Jr.

I think they’re most likely keeping Trent so I’m not even focusing on him anymore.
I wonder if Portland can afford keeping Powell though

Absolutely terrible contract. He's had so many injuries and is turning 31 in 2 months.
The Buck's current roster is not going to win a championship.

I also think his best role would be as a 6th man, but would still be intrigued to sign him for that role. he's really a knockdown shooter and he doesn't just do it off the catch, he can create a bit off the dribble as well

I don't think he's attainable anymore now that the Raptors got him. before, yeah b/c I didn't think the Blazers would want to go into the luxury tax to re-sign him since they got Simons

The MAX should be reserved for star players. Jrue is a great player, but no star

how you gonna give the MAX to a player that's made 1 all-star game 7 years ago?
