Nuggets Draft 2021

Post#1 » by mirmil » Fri Apr 2, 2021 1:03 am

Didn't know in which thread to put this question but did anyone take a look at draft prospects for the next draft. Maybe it is far away from todays perspective but looking at our team it is not hard to realize that we need SG. I guess we will end like 24th or something like that on choosing a pick. From what I've seen from the other threads that high could go someone like Duarte(I've seen just 1 game of his). Who would fit us best at SG from all of those SG picks?

Great post - I split it off to its own thread - we needed one for draft ideas anyway.

I'm not very big on watching college ball, so I'll leave the individual suggests to others - at least for now.

Totally agree that we probably need the right SG above anything else. I'd be looking for someone with Gordon's attitude since he came to the Nuggets: able to score, especially 3s & at the bucket but most important, willing to focus on defense.

I like Duarte too, he's got good size at 6'6" for a SG, something we can use at the position. He is a bit older I believe but with this team he may fit in as more NBA-ready. Really looks like he'd be a big add to this team, but will Malone see his readiness ??

Taevion Kinsey out of Marshall may be another Wing to look at, guy can score. Not sure if he'd be more of an off-the-bench guy but worth looking into at the 30th spot (see what I did there  )

Saw Charles Bassey entered, selecting towards the end of the first round he might be someone to consider as a backup C. He's got skills, a good rim-protector and can score and rebound.

From various mock drafts you can find Josh Christopher, Joel Ayayi, BJ Boston and Ayo Dosunmu in that pick range. Not sure what to think about those guys cause I haven't really pay attention till now. Maybe someone could say some more about them, which one could fit the best for our Nuggets team. Duarte is 23 so his game being more mature makes sense

I like a lot of guys and could see either guard type or a Center. Could even be a Forward

Utah State C NEmius Queta

C Ariel Hukporti

Gonzaga F Anton Watson

G league F Ike Todd

Pf usman Garuba

C Sengun

Daishen Nix and Jaden Springer as Guards. Maybe when davion Mitchell

We are stacked at F. Why would we pick another one, that doesn't make sense at all. If McGee stays I don't think we need C either. Primarily we need SG, maybe SG/SF.

I don’t know why anyone would consider javLe, campazzo or millsap long term pieces.

I think sg would be nice but that the range of picks we are talking about might be a Center.

If they continue to play Morris with Murray when Monte returns then a combo guard or pg is very likely too.

I think they will fix SG hole through trade or FA. It doesn’t look like a strong Sg draft. And Nugs draft too well most years to force position

I’d really like Wiggins, Lu Dort, Thybulle. Maybe Lonzo and slide Murray over for someone that good.

Maybe Giddey or Duarte is the bpa at that spot. Just don’t think you force any specific position. Obviously hopefully it’s not forward as NNaji and bolbol are still buried from playing time

Not sure if Millsap is going to be here next season. Nnaji would take his role next season and still we are having so many Fs. Wiggins is overpaid for his contributing. I'd never sign him for his 29M/y contract.

If Davion Mitchell gets undrafted all the way to our pick(which I doubt) I would take him with no hesitation. Watched Gonzaga last night and I really like what I saw from Ayayi.

My thought is they’ll LOOK for a SG but go for BPA regardless of position if the talent level is too disparaging. Trade could still happen as well, our Championship window is wide open.

They will likely go best player available. At this point with the Core 4, you should be able to fill holes in your lineup with free agency and there should be a number of guards on the market. Contend for a championship and watch the number of free agents available to Denver expand. They will maximize their draft picks, just like in the past.
Canned in Denver.

Since I don't trust Malone to use a rookie much - especially a rookie in the bottom half of the 1st round ... I'm not overly concerned about this draft. We have enough players now and a small trade or a minor free agent signing can round out the roster for next year.

Would you trade Barton and Jamychal Greens contracts for him ?

No way is Wiggins getting on this team unless we're getting some 1st rd picks (multiple) from GSW, he would surely destroy this team's chemistry as well as their Salary Cap with $65MM due over the next two years

For the sG only fans this is a great year for SG but wonder if any of the couple I really like have a chance to get into the 20’s. I think the sweet spots for Sg might come sooner. The sweet spot in the mid 20’s might be Centers

Bouknight or Keon Johnson would both be perfect for the Nugs. A chance either player lasts into the 20’s?

I think I like Duarte, Mitchell, and some others that there will definitely be guards around the pick Nugs could take. But think it’s really worth looking at centers like sengun, queta, Hukporti, garuba.

Nugs will need to take at least 2 rookies in each of the next 2 seasons. This draft will be way bigger to the Nugs than we can see or guess.

I think they’ll be aggressive and that this years draft will be interesting for us Nugs fans

It is hard to discuss late draft picks, especially months before the draft. I ignored this discussion last summer with canceled NCAA season, with exception of Aleksej Pokusevski (Serbian prospect) which is used to be available in the late '20s until the last few days before the draft where his rating rise very fast, so he was chosen as #17 while nobody expected that RJ Hampton will be available.

If you ask me, I would try to trade our late 2021 FRP with Barton for a late lottery 2021 pick, and then buy a missing guard starter on the FA market (for example defensive specialists Josh Richardson or Danny Green).

Well Jimmy Butler was a very late-round pick, Jokic was a 2nd so doing research is never too early IMO.

As for your trade idea, I'd like it if you could make it happen, moving a late 1st and Barton MAY get you into the 16-20 range yet I'd do it. As for your SG options, I'd prefer Richardson even though he's in a bit of a down year. Green is likened to a poor-man's Gary Harris and his age doesn't fit with our core but those two may be the best options on 1-yr contracts

There is also quite a few SG in 2nd round, I could see us going back to 2nd round and maybe future pick or somethinf so we dont take on 1st round salary

Return to Denver Nuggets
