From the little I saw I'd take Mobley over Suggs. New NBA does support perimeter players but I don't care. I'm stubborn.

Sitting out a year made no sense, it was just penalizing the kids.

Congratulations to Baylor for winning, but please Masai and Bobby do not draft Davion Mitchell with a lottery pick. It is so easy to see a college game and think a muscular 22 looks great. Last year Mitchell would have went undrafted.
Suggs looked elite at moments but quiet in others. Once he is in the NBA and playing with great players he will shine.

I like Suggs but I wouldn't discredit Mitchell this much, he will likely go to a contender and shine there.

Butler looked better than Mitchell imo. Very poised, made pressure shots, excellent defense, smart plays.

I think Mitchell is like a thicker Avery Bradley. I think him and Butler should be in the 1st round probably in the 20's.
I think Butler is like Chauncey Billups.

You guys are out to lunch. Davion Mitchell is going top 10 and likely won't even be available when we're picking. He's going to make all star teams.
Other than his age what exactly is it about his game that people don't like? He has a great NBA body. He's super explosive off the bounce. He can shoot off the dribble, including step backs. He's a decent play maker. He's a terrific defender, like incredible actually. It's Donovan Mitchell lite crossed with Jrue Holiday.

Sounds good to me. Let another GM pick him. The guy is 6'3 with a reported 6'5" wingspan. He is basically Ty Maxey in size, athleticism and skill, which is good for a 20-30 range. I put him out of the lottery because of his age and the track record on him as a shooter is short. He basically was a non-prospect his first two years of college.
I am sure someone will take him, but with FVV, Flynn and Trent Jr., I don't think Toronto needs another gritty guy under 6'5".

Butler has always been the better prospect as far as I am concerned. Great handle, can play point or play off-the-ball. His stock took a hit with Mitchell playing well, but I think he is going to be a decent PG in the league. He has a lot of Chris Paul shape to his game.

Re: The Official Cunningham vs Suggs Thread #Tank4Either
IMO Tre Mann is getting slept on big time.
Also I am not sold on Mobley at all in terms of being "the guy" on his team. On a contender he's probably a secondary star big with not enough of a perimeter game or closing ability to be "the guy".
My current top 10:
1. Cade Cunningham
2. Jalen Green
3. Jalen Suggs
4. Jonathan Kuminga
5. Tre Mann
6. Evan Mobley
7. Davion Mitchell
8. Jaden Springer
9. Moses Moody
10. Corey Kispert

Re: The Official Cunningham vs Suggs Thread #Tank4Either
Looking at the top 8 we could possible get Mobley or at least trade up for him depending on if we get 6-7. 3/5 teams in the top 5 should prefer one of the many guards/wings over a C. The Magic, Rockets (maybe but they only have KPJr as a wong/guard for the future), Cavs, and Minnesota would all probably pass on him or at least be open to trading down if we guarantee we are taking the C

I guess people now view him as Marcus Smart 2.0, who was drafted 6th overall.
I think he would be a good fit with Lamelo Ball. They should trade Rozier for Steven Adams.

Re: The Official Cunningham vs Suggs Thread #Tank4Either
Davion's low free throw rate is concerning to me. If he can't get to the line in college, it will be even a bigger struggle in the NBA.
His measurements will be key. If he only measures out to 6'1/6'2 with a 6'4/6'5 wingspan I can see him slipping out of the top 10.
I like him mid 1st, but not in the top 10. I think he can be a rotation piece, but i dont see much highend upside.

Sbnation also mentioned the same concern and a bit more.
I think the ranking and reasoning is very good:
https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2021/4/6/22366925/nba-mock-draft-2021-cade-cunningham-jalen-suggs-davion-mitchell
Project Mitchell will be picked in the mid to late 10
Scouts will wonder if Mitchell’s big shooting improvement is real considering he’s also a 64 percent free throw shooter. Mitchell’s inability to consistently get to the foul line is also concerning. He only attempted 64 free throws all season in 30 games.
They have Mobley ahead of Suggs only because of team needs
A team like the Orlando Magic, with former top-10 picks Mohamed Bamba and Wendell Carter Jr. at center, might opt for Suggs as a backcourt complement to Markelle Fultz. The Timberwolves would also have a fascinating decision if they land at No. 2. Suggs, a Minnesota native, would be an intriguing match next to Anthony Edwards in the backcourt.
Kai Jones maybe projected as a late lottery pick, but could go up like Patrick Williams last year
Our first pick is Kai Jones, the 6’11 Texas big man with freaky flashes of skill and athleticism.
Giddey is another player who started rising up boards midway through the season because of his size and production playing in the NBL.

Yeah definitely steer clear of a guy who worked his ass off to become a potential lottery pick - you don't want those hard-working types bringing down your franchise. (There are certainly things to critique about his game, but knocking the guy for vast improvement makes no sense to me).

The rate isn't great, but something to keep in mind: Baylor as a whole doesn't attack the rim much - they are mostly a drive and kick or transition team. They only get to the line 16.7 times per game, which is 248th in the country. For me, the FT% is much more concerning. He's been under 70% his entire career, which may be an indicator that his uptick in 3-point shooting is an outlier, and won't transition to the longer line.

Agreed, he's improved his 3-pt shooting to make him a prospect. Marcus Smart, who couldn't shoot by age 25 is around a 34% 3pt shooter. Due to the factors outlined, Tankathon projects his 3pt shooting at 35%, which is fair.
