What I found funny that nobody is talking about is that he studies film with Kofi Cockburn. Not exactly the guy I'd study film with.

I can't believe he didn't ask you who he should study with.
Why is this thread still alive? It's completely been taken over by Wiseman-bashing, which might have some interest value if we hadn't been reading these same takes ALL SEASON LONG and even before the season began.

Well until the post you are currently reading, you kept it alive.

i agree with your overarching point and don't think this is a huge deal, but he specifically said he talks to KD about fitting into the warriors' system, not brand or lifestyle or w/e.
it is just kinda weird that that's who JW is saying he talks to, when tbh if he was smart he'd be talking to BIGS that fit great into this system...like Bogut...heck just talk to Draymond and Loon lol.
i think this plays into the notion that JW doesn't really know what he is as a player honestly.

If I was to look at Wiseman and how he preferred to play before the Warriors got hold of him I would be tempted to think that he wanted to play more like KD and not a center. The team seems to want to fit him in a particular mold and it's conflicting with his natural preferences.

And you don't think Wiseman's crappy play and moping around on court has anything to do with people bashing him?

I agree, he seems to be flailing without definition at this point. I dont really hold that against him because I'd kind of expect that from a 19 year old. That said, I wouldn't probably draft that player 2nd overall unless I had a very specific gameplan for him. Maybe this is the gameplan, to try and cater to what hes good at (scoring) to see if the momentum bleeds into other facets? I dunno.. its hard to tell what the plan is, or if there was one.
But as I said earlier, the good quarter he had vs ATL, thats better than what we usually see. Maybe it carries over. Just sucks that every time he gets any kind of positive momentum, its derailed by injury or plague

Re: WISEMAN EXPECTATIONS: Year 1
I think one of the mistakes the org made was to say things like they expect JW to be a future all-star and have him penciled in as the starting C.
Players should just be evaluated as they are, and not by their draft pick. JW should have been sent to the G league immediately. He's 19 and played like 3 college games. One scrimmage would be enough to see that he needs to conquer the G league first.
Then when you do bring him up he is coming off the bench. If he doesn't like it, who cares? That's what it means to have a rookie contract.

This was a strange year in that there was no G league to send him to immediately, since it didn't begin until February. There were two months when they had to do something with him, even though he had no training camp. So they played him--why not?

The optics of Wiseman getting advice from KD and Kyrie is about as bad as it can be.
The kid should be reaching out to Bogut, David West, Boogie Cousins (big men); Curry, Thompson, and Green for advice on how to better fit into Kerr's system.
KD left the Warriors because of Kerr and the kid goes to KD for advice? WTF?
On one level the optics are bad.
But interestingly enough it probably does give significant insight into the relationships of the Warriors players with KD.
I find it hard to believe that these conversations would be happening without Steph, Draymond, and Klay knowing about it and without at least their tacit blessing. It's an indication that the Warriors players and KD remain close behind the scenes. It seems they have maintained a genuine friendship and it is not a case of a mercenary KD just coming in and going which is too easy a way to characterize things for outsiders who wish to fantasize about drama.
The reason I have an issue with it is because KD obviously didn't like Kerr's system and didn't fit into the system. What does KD do well, he isolates and he scores over people. What should Wiseman not be doing: posting up or isolating. KD is probably telling him that he should be trying to score every time he touches the ball, but Wiseman isn't close to being a good scorer and he's already a black hole on offense.

Agreed!
Wiseman should have reached out to Bogut, David West and even Boogie Cousins if he needed mentorship on how to better understand and fit into Kerr's system.
Also, why not just go directly to Kerr?
Kerr and this coaching staff really messed up this season with their Wiseman development plan (BTW, I am not bashing the Warriors for having drafted Wiseman; I am, however, criticizing the coaching staff on its poorly-executed Wiseman development plan). Instead of starting a 19-year old kid who had only played 3 college games, had no summer league experience and an abbreviated training camp, Kerr should have begun Wiseman's tenure with the Warriors at the G-League level where the kid could have gotten more tutelage, gotten playing time without the media scrutiny, and learned how to play as a NBA professional. Yes, the media and fanbase would have criticized the team for having to send the #2 pick in this past year's draft to the G-League; yet, it would have been the best thing for both Wiseman and the Warriors. This Wiseman mess is all on Kerr and the coaching staff; the kid needed to get coaching, playing time, and above all, confidence.

Wiseman looked pretty good today. Some dumb rotations on D as are expected, but he was a valuable offensive player. Hm... I wonder what changed?

You know what? Learning the fact that Wiseman was in contact with KD earlier even before the start of his professional career and that he is in constant contact with him even now is a big tell and potentially very useful information. The most important point to take away from this all? Wiseman admires KD's game. If the Warriors are smart they will take this information and find a way to use it to properly develop him.
Yes the Warriors coaching and development staff have dropped the ball and one reason I'm not that high on Kerr. This should be obvious to everyone. When I said that their failures with Jones and Bell were dire indicators I got snickers from this crowd. I wonder if they realize the wisdom now.
