Is Chris Boucher's time with the team also numbered?
At this point the team is going young and appears to be getting rid of good backup type players who would be expensive, in their prime and have not much upside left.
Boucher is 28 years old.
The Raptors are certainly better with him, but only better to the point of closer to .500.
Do you see a trade with him in the near future?

He's only a 6.5m cap hit for a stretch big with some blocks, I don't think he gets traded unless he is in a package...

I don't think he has much value but if you can get a late 1st for him you do it in a heartbeat

At 7M for 2021/2022 he is a bargain. After that he is 29 and could demand a bigger contract.
Ideally, we pull off a Norm>>GTJ type trade using Boucher (as part of a package) to get a younger and better player and more years of control. But if we resign him, don't pay more than 11M per.

He's improved every year, and is cost controlled for at least another season (and probably isn't looking at a 20/year contract after that either).
Why would we get rid of him now? He's exactly the sort of player you want to help fill in the bench.

The question is do you decline the team option for a team friendly long-term deal?

Re: Is Chris Boucher's time with the team also numbered?
The question is what is his replacement? Is there a better option?
If we are not getting a better and cheaper backup PF/C, do we
1) want a bench that is worse?
2) Or do we want to pay more to the bench for upgrade?

He's a flawed player. A modern day 5 game in a 4 body. He's neutralized when other teams are physical. Bench 4 at $6.5M, might be too pricey.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

I thought Boucher, Norm and Lowry would be gone by the deadline. He probably had 1st rd pick value because he has 1 more yr left on a cheap deal.

At $6.5M expiring next year, that's a great piece for a trade filler. You need players in the $6M to $12M range to match salaries on trades for stars.

I doubt you can get a better player at his $ figure next year, could see him traded by the next deadline though. Hes good and his cap figure is good trade wise too. Best to keep him around for now

Would it need to be declined? Or could they just negotiate an extension?

If he wins MIP, probably not. Well, probably not too friendly.

He has an attractive expiring contract at a reasonable number and can legit backup 4/5, so I wouldn't be in a rush to get rid of him.

we missed our opportunity to sell high on him earlier in the year. At this point we might pick up his option and/or deal him for a minor asset/similar player depending on how free agency shapes up and what our capspace requirements are.

Re: Is Chris Boucher's time with the team also numbered?
If you think Boucher is a 40% 3 point shooter going forward I can see wanting to keep him, otherwise it doesn't make sense to invest long term into a bench piece who will be 29 when he signs his next deal. Punting on re-signing Norm just to keep Boucher and Lowry is awful asset management.

Well we have a team option for 7m a year which is a very fair contract.
He's a nice utility player off the bench who is useful in certain matchups. He's a nice bench piece or could be used in a package for a solid starter.

Boucher stays, I’m quite sure. He came from the bottom, he’s a hard worker. He fits the team.

Well, sure an extension or new contract would negate the team option.

really depends on what the Raptors do in free agency. but the main priority is getting 5 quality starters on the floor first. bench is a luxury.
