Re: Magic to Waive C Khem Birch
Looks like WeHam are wide awake now. Wish Birch the best. Loved the effort he brought to the team. He represented us well.

What in the hell??? I get the logic of getting Bamba and WCJ more time, but they couldn't have moved him at the deadline for a 2nd rounder?

Re: Magic to Waive C Khem Birch
Feels like a wasted asset. All that time invested in developing Birch gone for nothing. We sacrificed all those developmental minutes for Bamba to play and start Birch.
Birch is on one of the few guys the front office found off the scrap heaps and developed into a rotation NBA player. I always liked Khem Birch the person and player. Feels weird that they're just ditching one of their "wins" as a front office.
Should have traded him at the deadline.

Guessing this locks in Cannady to be signed for the remainder of the season.

Management doing him a solid rather than benching him in a contract year. I wish him success at his next destination.

They probably tried to trade him and couldn’t find a trade that worked. He’s expiring and I would assume we didn’t want to take back salary.

Just realized Birch drives 90 minutes down I-4 to Tampa to join his new team lol

Re: Magic to Waive C Khem Birch
I wonder what happened with that deal for Kevin Knox at the deadline that Shams reported then deleted. Surprises me in that they didn't move him for an asset and just let him go, but anything that allows for WCJ and Bamba to play out all the minutes at 5 for the rest of the year is a good move at this stage.

Happy for him but it does feel like a wasted asset.
Even though I wanted Bamba to play over him, I actually liked Birch. Wish him the best.

Re: Magic to Waive C Khem Birch
Let us assume that if in the last 5 games Birch had been the third stringer, he would still be a Magician.
This move by Management forces Coach Clifford to play certain players (i.e. lose games).
Coach will always field his best roster. By shipping Birch off, the perceived management goal that Carter would start with Bamba as the primary backup can now be seen.

Happy for Birch but definitely poor asset management.
I don't know enough about this business where you discuss getting a 2nd rounder vs doing something in good faith for a player that's done everything we've asked of him. Probably the same logic that went into trading Fournier for 2nd rounders to get him to a winning situation.

Solid rotation player, will do well on a potential playoff team.

That would be great for us. They could use his size... maybe he can help them win a few more games and keep the bulls out of the playoffs

Re: Magic to Waive C Khem Birch
few more things:
1) he should help Tor in the tank race.
2) front office is committed to the youth
3) don't rule out drafting a big. If Mo can't cut it these game (he's showing more and more) his replacement will be here in the summer.

If Bacon and Ennis aren't returning next season they need to go, too.

I think once Harris is healthy enough to play, we may see Bacon get the same waive treatment.

If this happens someone will need to check on me.
I’m already losing it with excitement over here just from the Birch announcement.
