I'm prioritizing a scorer...a shot maker...someone who has a versatile offensive game that doesn't play exclusively to drive the ball straight to the basket or hang back and just shoot 3s.
It seems that our system takes guys with great measurements or work ethics and underdeveloped offensive games and emphasizes those 2 methods of scoring...and when you have a team that is just full of the same kind of offensive weapons...teams know exactly how to shut you down.
Who in the 7-10 range can get you a bucket from anywhere on the floor?
There's a fine line between a guy who has a good offensive game and a guy who puts up empty stats. Guys like Jordan Clarkson are shot creators but they dont do much else making their value limited.
You need to draft a guy who impacts winning and thats through a combination of IQ, playmaking and defense.
The team sorely needs some playmaking. Someone that can pressure and compromise a defense.
Makes me curious about roster construction going forward. If GTJ counts as apart of the core then there's 4 guys locked up without any being a high level creator. I mean look at Boston, they've got some serious talent with Tatum and Brown but there's and ingredient missing. We've been spoiled with some seriously solid playmakers in DeRozan, Lowry, Kawhi, and Gasol. None of which were perfect but a combination of 2-3 made for dependable offences.
I'm all for the team's defense first philosophy. The best organizations are principled and have an identity. And so I'm super curious if playmaking will develop internally or come from the outside. If it comes in the form of new talent will there be an odd man out?
