Current Piston nicknames

Post#1 » by guldakot » Fri Apr 9, 2021 9:15 pm

I'm bored so I've been determining what nicknames to use for our current players. Most of them are terrible and will never stick. Let me see what you think, and also what you have for our talented (and not so talented) youngsters.

Killian Hayes - Precis , The Musketeer (incredible pass accuracy) - could evolve into the Guillotine if it turns out he's a closer in tight games.

Sekou Doubouya - Dauphin (crown prince), Perdu (lost), Booyah (terrible I know - sekou is tough because he hasnt done anything yet) (combined with Hayes for The French Connection)

Saddiq Bey - The 40 year old Rookie (plays like a 20 year vet) - Bae

Hamidou Diallo - HD - 1080p - HiDef

Isaiah Stewart - Stewie - g.o.a.t Stew (I hate Kelsers beef stew, and since goat stew / curry is incredibly popular in the carribean and jamaica....)

Saben Lee - I got nothing for him yet. Literally nothing outside of Dark Saber and thats just terrible.

Jerami Grant - Im liking The Condor or Smooth Criminal.

Mason Plumlee - I call him Plums or the Plumster to myself, but those are terrible.

Tyler Cook - Baby Eater (2.0 Maxiel was the OG)

Corey Joseph - Already has Cojo

Josh Jackson - Action Jackson - JJ - Slow the hell down and run the offense

Jahlil Okafor - Oak - J.Oke (when hes playing terrible) Biggun'

Wayne Ellington - Big Game Wayne - The Vet - Slick

Frank Jackson - Sideshow Bob (check out his picture on nba.com) - Mr 4th quarter (per Kelser.. eh...) - Round 2

Rodney McGruder - Mcgruber - eh I got nothing

Deividas Sirvydis - Human Victory Cigar (really belongs to Darko) Hasn't done anything to remotely earn a nick.

George Blaha is using I Stew. Not sure where he picked that up.

Stewart has approved Beef Stew, "It's a name the fans came up with," smiled Stewart. "I'm just going to rock out with it."

There is already a Beef Stew fan club on twitter. I suspect it's gonna stick.

My preference would be Jackhammer.

Nicknames have to be short and snappy (two syllables?) and I agree that I Stew just sounds dumb. Beef Stew is definitely better. And apparently Sekou is being referred to as Koo but I'm not wild about that either. There are some obviously fitting and already existing ones like JJ and Cojo, but here's what I came up with:

Killian - The Killer, Purple Haze
Sekou - Stay Cool, Say Doom
Saddiq - Sweet Bey
Hamidou Diallo - El Diablo
Saben Lee - The Saber, General Lee
Jerami Grant - General Grant
Mason Plumlee - Mace P
Tyler Cook - The Chef (cookin' up the finest dishes)
Okafor - Oak Tree
Wayne Ellington - The Duke
Frank Jackson - Stonewall
McGruber - RMac
Sirvydis - Quick Serve

Definitely a good one. He needs to do a lot to earn it, obviously.

Beef Stew is 100% a thing.

I refer to Sekou as Doom Boy.

Bit of a throwback but I remember in this forum when we would refer to Jerebko as "Poop" haha! and Toliver as "The Law".

*I believe Sadiq gets called Diq (pronounced deek).

Josh Jackson - Kid Dynomite -... like j j walker from good times, old school tv. Plus it fits since he can explode like dynomite.... I like that alot.

Yeah its pretty aweful lol. Im a huge fan of chinese nicknames for nba players so I was trying to over-sensationalize the nicknames.

Blaha called him "beef stew" so that might be something that sticks. I also like "Big Zeke" as a throwback to Thomas.

"All Day Bey" or "Trey Bey"

Killian could be shortened to "Kill" if he develops that killer instinct.

Big Zeke is worse than Beef Stew. Beef Stew is original and a play on his name and brute force. I'm not a fan of forcing nicknames on players but it's actually pretty ok.

If I had to put a percentage on it I'd say Blaha says "I Stew" most of the time and Kelser is about 50/50 with "Beef Stew." I like Trey Bey. That rolls off pretty nicely and fitting as well.

Some of these nicknames are really cringe and doesn't work well at all. Beef Stew is the only one that makes sense so far. Just call em by their shortened names or last names like Bey or Hayes is good enough.

Every other one feels forced or unearned
