I think it’s possible the Magic are interested in taking Porter’s bird rights into free agency to keep the possibility of a sign and trade alive as well.

Exactly, lets make sure we help him get healthy.

Let s show him that we d do everything we can do to help him, then once it s time to sign a long term deal in 2022, he ll give us a discount

If he isn't healthy next season, then it s an easy decision, we drop him and don't offer him a contract in 2022

offering him a long contract this summer would be crazy

however a 1 year contract I the best solution for the magic

why would he give us a discount? he could give a discount to a better team needing a SF rather than us. I like the idea, he just has zero reason to do us any favors.

Zero reasons? who else is gonna offer him a 1 year at 25M contract?

No-one

Win win for both parties

We keep his bird right, we keep our flexibility for summer 2022

He get a huge contract and get an extra year to show other team in the league if he is healthy

We would be doing him a favor by overpaying him for one year and that would be the reason for him doing us a favor and signing on a discount. Will he do that is a whole other topic. But I at least agree with the 1 year overpayment signing he is a good vet to have with our young guys. Then we can decide if we even want to keep him.

I'm in disbelief...

How is giving OPJ $25M for one year a win for us? He can't stay healthy and he just isn't very good anymore. His market value might not even be $5M and who wants to give him a multi-year deal?

I remember the times that everyone complained that Vuc was overpaid because he earned 25M per year and now people want to offer it for a backup SF hoping he accepts it as a home discount...

You didn't read properly

You give him a huge 1 yr deal to avoid offering him a multi year deal

If we offer a multi year deal this summer to any fa, we shoot ourself in the foot and screw our cap for summer 2022.

Offering a 1 Yr deal to otto is better than offering a multi year deal to player x this summer.

Absolutely not. That's what you call "The Jeff Green Special". Dude signs a huge one year deal, gets an automatic starting spot, thinks he's being asked to carry a big scoring load, and says he's willing to be a mentor but it's really a cover up because his sole purpose is to put up numbers that will get himself a fat new contract the following year.

Okeke has shown more than capable of deserving minutes over Porter and when Isaac comes back, he'll be playing more SF.

Save the money and give early extensions to WCj and Bamba and move forward with developing our future core.

I would never give early extension to Bamba, would rather give him late if those were available. I am not against signing good veterans who know their role. We dont want to unleash all the chuckers on our team, need some veteran presence.

I keep seeing people here touting the merits of keeping Otto Porter. He was thrown in to match salaries in a trade. That was the full extent of his trade value. Injuries suck and I hate to see any player suffer as a result of them. But, he's basically a part-time player at this point.

The old Otto Porter isn't coming back. The Magic would be better off taking a chance on a 2nd round pick or undrafted player instead next season.

If we get lucky enough in the lottery, then we won't need a target.

It all depends on price. You wont find 6'8 shooter with his skill set in the second round. Otto went 3rd. Yes he is injury prone, but that drives his salary down. Without veterans it will be never ending rebuild.
