Re: ATL - 2021 Buyout market Dieng to sign with Spurs
I remember during some random offseason nba expansion discussion a year or so (maybe more by now) back I made a random comment how now that the Bucks stadium situation is resolved and assuming Giannis would sign I was surprised the media push that we dealt with for years hasn't shifted to MN and KAT. Old stadium, old owner, team has just been bad for 15 years now, fans really don't care, cold, players won't sign there, etc.
I acknowledged I didn't want it to happen but of course a couple MN people made a big fuss about it. And I said I knew the owner was a local MN guy and didn't know the plan on what he'd do with the ownership situation when he passes. But if this goes down we'll see what happens. Seattle and Vegas are licking their chops and getting ready right now.

Minny has been one of the most "whatever" teams I can remember with a brief period of competency during KG's prime, but I'd rather see the league expand rather than move another team from its original town.

I think we'll see expansion realtivly soon. We currently in the longest stretch in NBA history without expansion.
Although expansion to Seattle and Vegas would leave the league without cities they can use to extort public money on arenas so maybe they'll try to get a couple more built before actually expanding.

Yup, I'd agree that would be my preference. Just add two teams. But, if they don't build a new stadium soon (obviously some buffer now with the pandemic) they're primed to be moved. And judging by rudimentary assessment on if the locals care enough to pay for the stadium I think they'd hold strong and not approve public funds (or at least minimal amounts). Keep in mind they just built new NFL, MLB, and college football.
And for a prospective owner it's much easier to buy a team than to get the expansion approval. I think Cuban has been pretty vocal about why would I possibly vote to dilute my own stake in the business. But, the pandemic does provide an opportunity as many teams/owners could probably use a cash infusion right now that would come from the expansion fee.
On the other hand, if the NBA is going to continue to treat cities like ours as second class citizens might as well rip the bandaid off in MN and just move the team. Put them in one of San Diego, Seattle, Vegas and add two expansion teams. Something like that.

Freaking Hawks got two players we badly needed this season. A true shooting guard like Bogdanovic and a pure scorer of the bench like Lou Williams. Wasted spots on a team that can't compete for a title anytime soon.

I been hyping trent up all year, sad we couldn't find a way to get him. I really think DDV for Trent would've worked.

Lou is a playoff choker, and I couldn't imagine trying to defend with 2 wings as slow as Bogdan and Khris. Khris defends well enough, but is match up specific, and Bogdan would need to take all those match ups.

That fourth quarter collapse from Denver today put our previous efforts to shame.

Hot take from me. The Hornets play by play guy blowing his load at every highlight ruins his calls for me. Dude has been way over the top this season.

St. Louis doesn’t have the name of a Vegas, but I think they are far more deserving of an NBA team.
Keep the summer league in Vegas and just hold the All Star game there every year if you’re that hard up about it.

Fair and having lost the Rams they have availability too, like San Diego. However, STL would just be adding yet another team for the league to crap on. If you're not going to do anything to fix the system you might as well just embrace the reality of it. Vegas and San Diego do not have those issues. More importantly, Vegas has a 3 year old stadium ready to go. If I remember correctly, Seattle is building one now or just did.
One thing specific to STL though, and granted I'm quite a Cardinals hater, is the um should we say demographics and mindset of their baseball fans would suggest to me that city would not be very receptive to the NBA.
Vegas is built for the NBA and has absolutely killed it with support and sales since they got the hockey team. Granted, it helps they've been good immediately. Now, adding in NFL and NBA is a stretch and I can't say for sure how it would go. But these days it's almost impossible to fail at NFL. And if you can kill it with hockey I don't know how it wouldn't with NBA.

San Diego is an awesome city and big enough for a team but I don't really think it would work as an NBA market. The locals are already Lakers fans and the transplants have their teams from back home. Add that to having a lot of things to do outside and they would have trouble filling an arena.
St. Louis is more likely to succeed. I also think Vancouver could be worth another try.
Seattle and Vegas are the obvious expansion ones though and added bonus you could move either the wolves or griz east and that makes more sense for either location than the current set up.
I guess all this proves regardless of expansion the NBA will always find a market to use as leverage for arena money.

I would make it an annual vacation to fly down and watch the Bucks play the San Diego T-Wolves. Love that city.

Wouldn't competing for winter dollars with the Blues be the biggest issue?

In fairness, this is the first year in a long time he's had something to be excited about with the Hornets.

For all the win-now moves the Bulls made at the deadline, they still kinda stink.
